At the beginning of the 23rd century, the Umbrella Corporation had become the largest commercial entity in the world. Nine out of every ten homes contained its products. Its political and financial influence was felt everywhere. In public, it was the world's leading supplier of computer technology, medical products, and health care. Unknown even to its own employees, its massive profits were generated by military technology, genetic experimentation and viral weaponry.

On Halloween Night, 2214, the Raccoon City incident brought most of Umbrella's dirty laundry out into the public eye. The T-Virus, a mutagenic agent designed for wide-scale biowarfare against humans and Reploids, was released in Raccoon City. Two of Umbrella's greatest biomonster creations, "Nemesis" and "Nosferatu", roamed the city, doing battle against the forces of Earth attempting to stop the T-Virus from overtaking the world.

In the end, Umbrella was narrowly defeated, and its leader Alexia Ashford was apparently killed in the fighting. Raccoon City was destroyed by General's Apocalypse Cannon to prevent the T-Virus from spreading.

As the years progressed, the Umbrella Corporation dealt with numerous lawsuits and governmental inquests. Many scientists and managers were jailed, and much of Umbrella was dismantled. There were also numerous mysterious disappearances at all levels of the company, suspected to be cherry-picking by the United Nations to find the best of Umbrella's talent and put them to work in their own black book projects.

Five years after Raccoon City, Umbrella was given a clean bill of health. Shortly after that, the United Nations which had been keeping a watchful eye on it collapsed.

Albert Wesker was instrumental in reconstructing the legitimate portions of the Umbrella Corporation after the fall of Alexia Ashford. Wesker, believed to have been killed during the Raccoon City incident after attempting to betray a group of people fighting the T-Virus zombies, had somehow survived. In return for providing expert testimony against certain individuals in Umbrella, Wesker was provided with immunity from prosecution. This gave him the opportunity to rise up through the company and seize control of it, then profit as its value began to rise again.

Wesker saw to it that after the fall of Raccoon City, many of Umbrella's original products were hidden away to prevent the United Nations from seeing the true scale of the blasphemies they were committing. The Nemesis project was one of these carefully hidden secrets, as were several other projects of note.

Once the United Nations was out of the way, these old projects were reactivated, and new personnel were brought in to oversee them. Doctor Joseph Weil was one of these new researchers, as well as Doctor Leonard Regal. A colleague of Albert Wesker's, William Wiggin, was brought in to manage the finances of the company (who has since departed to engage in "other ventures"), and was assisted by up-and-coming Umbrella executive (and convenient prole) Timothy Caine.

Shortly after assembling his management team, Albert Wesker formally aligned the Umbrella Corporation with Neo Arcadia. This has caused controversy around the world, but as Umbrella has continued to sell its products to every nation in the world regardless of affiliation, the WTO has not chosen to sanction the company.

Recently, the Umbrella Corporation was partially linked to an incident in Willamette, Colorado in which a massive outbreak of a viral weapon created "zombies" throughout an entire town. A multi-force response revealed that Carlito Keyes, a Pantheon-aligned terrorist, had released the viral vector. His plan was to use both the adult stage and the larval stage of engineered modified flying ants to spread the virus across North America.

It was eventually found that the terrorist had been assisted by a person (better described as a "creature") who believes herself to be Alexia Ashford. Ashford was apparently killed during the final confrontation in Willamette, but her body was not recovered.

"And yet he complained that his belly was not full..."

Umbrella's internal environment is much like Dilbert or Office Space to the average Umbrella employee. Most of the company engages in wholly legitimate and unexciting enterprise, and provides reasonable compensation and benefits to its average employees. Umbrella's financial impact on the communities it operates in is extensive, and most nations welcome its involvement in their economy.

To the highest levels of the Umbrella organization, the situation is much like the Resident Evil games -- horrific experiments committed on man and beast to achieve results of singular deadliness. The senior management is almost completely amoral and will align itself with any interests it feels can maximize shareholder value. Many of them are themselves monsters, the products of self-experimentation in genetic augmentation or cybernetics.

Monsterous PCs are appable through the Umbrella Corporation. Characters who are "products" of the company are conditioned to be loyal to the company and are usually horrific examples of what man can do when empowered over nature. Most are minimally intelligent, but have a feral cunning which enables them to be effective in combat. CST ranges for these characters are the same as for robotic OCs in other factions.

Umbrella biomonsters are generally weak to Fire or occasionally Sonic. Nemesis units are only weak to Plot Devices and are not appable.
