Profile
"Please hold."
Siren was a sysop for a minor vehicle manufacturing company, forced to flee when Neo Arcadia came to full power in 2217. Already having been resentful against the corporation she worked for, she returned violence with petty mischief, spending her next few years engaged in guerilla tactics against the Pantheon instead of fleeing the country like so many other reploids. Unable to strike out directly, she turned to more subtle tactics using her own set of skills - jamming Pantheon radio signals, causing minor accidents through reprogramming vehicles, and generally being a thorn in the side of the state. Taking advantage of the internal revolutions within Mexico that caused Elpizo to temporarily fall from power in 2219, Siren made her escape to the Mavericks. She has expanded greatly upon her initial abilities, and while a decent hacker, she prefers tangible, immediate results to her work - taking down traffic grids and assisting with the infiltration of security systems. This assertiveness can sometimes be her downfall; while Siren is prepared to defend herself should she be detected in her work, her preference to operate on-site means she places herself in real danger on a regular basis, something most non-combat units prefer to avoid.
Short Note
Unit HMC-17-Jalisco was built by the Hanuman Corporation in Indonesia and contracted to work at a vehicle manufacturing plant in Mexico. She was far better known as the online presence Siren, one of the group of hackers known collectively as the Greeks (+news nana for more information). An active but not particularly benign presence, Siren was known for swift wit and swifter temper as well as her aggressive pursuit of knowledge; often relating tales of the workplace and of life in Mexico in an increasingly unstable time. She disappeared both online and in the real world in 2217 and was presumed dead until her resurfacing as a Maverick in January 2220.
Education/Skills
Standard vehicle maintenance, repair, and hotwiring. Security system identification and infiltration. Communications system operator. Basic electrical/mechanical equipment repair. Basic reploid repair (DO NOT WANT). Establishment of covert/alternate identities.
History
November 2nd, 2215: HMC-17-Jalisco, one of a set of fifty reploids, was built on contract in Indonesia and shipped on out to Jalisco, Mexico. The group began work for Hanuman Corporation, your average big vehicle manufacturing plant. The company specialized in equipment and troop transports -- they keep getting blown up or stolen, after all, so /someone/ had to produce them. Hanuman Corp., however, was in a tight way, the reason they resorted to contracting reploids instead of hiring locals to do the work. It is difficult to keep up with other major players in the increasingly volatile Robot Wars, and small companies need cheap labour.
HMC-17-Jalisco was responsible for data management and communications within the company, a singularly onerous task. Of the five reploids within her sub-group who all had similar functions, she rapidly outstripped them in ability and efficiency. This was, partially, due to her own natural ambition; a large portion of the credit, however, had to be assigned to her participation in the Greeks, a group of hackers dedicated mostly to collecting knowledge and honing their own abilities. 'Siren', as was her online alias, was naturally attracted to such an idea, and became one of the group's founding members. Here was a distraction from the mundane, irritating reality of her day-to-day job. Siren's desire for just a little more power and control in her life was, for the most part, tempered with this new source of knowledge. Were it not for the increasing violence with which reploids were treated in Mexico, she might have been able and even satisfied to live her life in this state: a regular run-of-the-mill working reploid by day and an assertive, increasingly competent hacker on her own free time -- mostly testing her skills against the other Greeks in the form of pranks and practical jokes.
Kept on a tight leash by the contract she'd signed with the company, Siren continued her work there over the next year or so, even as the riots in Mexico worsened and it became an increasingly hostile environment for reploids. She had a job, and while it might have sucked incredibly, it was secure, unlike what would happen if she quit and attempted to find work somewhere else with nothing to her name. Siren was not entirely oblivious to the world outside her life, however; even as she slogged away from day-to-day work and honed her own hacking abilities whenever she wasn't tending company business, she also watched the news, listened to the local police net (illegally) and began keeping tabs on the political atmosphere in Mexico City. Attacks in the street upon reploids started becoming more common.
Lacking an outlet for her frustration in a situation that was hopeless and getting worse, Siren achieved her daily petty revenge in little ways -- hacking into local traffic grids and changing traffic lights to her advantage, for instance. Siphoning off revenue from the company, very carefully. Ripping off department store credsticks. Small things that made life uncomfortable for the people around her, but that would not result in too close of an investigation or put her at too much risk. She escaped blame, mostly due to the ineptness of her comrades, who were not receiving the same kind of training she was thanks to the Greeks she associated with. Siren grew into an increasingly aggressive online presence, mostly just looking for a way to vent. Her earnings, legal and otherwise, went towards the purchase of her own consoles, radio equipment, and personal upgrades, as she tried to stay ahead of the game on what was happening around her.
April 2217: Elpizo's power was realized. The e-human process was brought fully to bear. Siren, having anticipated trouble for some time now, decided to cut her losses and make a break for it: she grabbed what she needed, threw it on the back of a hoverbike, and left overnight without warning. Her absence was not notable because in the wake of Elpizo's takeover of the Mexico City, Hanuman Corp. experienced a hostile takeover of its own shortly afterwards -- whereupon any reploid still left was thrown out or lynched. Lacking anything in the way of friends or family, Siren was entirely on her own in the middle of Mexico, with only a few possessions and a stolen hoverbike to her name. It was an extremely unfavourable position to be in and she lacked a safe way to escape.
Instead, Siren did the very opposite; she developed some backbone. While she couldn't leave Mexico easily, she had the equipment necessary to maintain a radio and net presence. Having a little distance from the new city of Neo Arcadia itself, the area of Jalisco was a little easier to sneak around in. Siren rapidly devoted herself to making life hell for the citizens of Guadalajara -- starting with Pantheon or Neo Arcadian soldiers and sympathizers, and eventually making life easy for herself by settling for any human she could target. As she had did in the company, so she did here: hijacking vehicle computer systems, rerouting bank transactions, ruining home security systems, jamming Pantheon transmissions, and generally causing any sort of mayhem she could. What had been done out of spite became increasingly violent in retaliation as the violence towards reploids increased; more than once her only escape was to throw everything on the back of her bike and book it out to the countryside. Her humanoid form helped disguise her appearance, but the vast majority of the time she relied on skill and wits to keep up her one-sided petty war.
Siren was not the only reploid or reploid sympathizer; her distance from the capital city gave her some leeway in her travels. And there will always be a healthy black market in every city. A goodly part of Siren's time was spent hijacking vehicles or stealing parts (typically from the now-human-controlled company she used to work for) to scrap them for cash, or devising other ways to raise funds so she could afford her own maintenance and upgrades.
June 2219: As the Pantheon retreated back into Mexico and Elpizo abdicated power, Neo Arcadia began to weaken. Lumine's rise to power in the Mavericks, however, was imminent. What was once a minor turf war hardened into a resolution; Siren finally make her escape from Jalisco, unsatisfied with even the most violent measures she was able to take on her own. Humans and reploids would never be able to live together in peace, she determined, and so she would join the Mavericks to ensure that human rule would eventually be broken. She first escaped into San Angeles and from there headed to Able City; biding her time there until Sigma was eliminated and Lumine's power was secure before making her bid to join the Mavericks in 2220.
Command Notes
My subordinates have a pool on whether Siren will eat Magna Centipede after mating, like a praying mantis, or if she will stab him to death and lay eggs in his corpse, like a wasp. - Storm Eagle
Intelligence? What the hell kind of function is that? In the /Mavericks/? There must be some kind of paperwork error... - Lumine
Trivia/Facts
Siren was one of the original Greeks. Not well-known outside the community otherwise, between 2215 and 2217 she was around the Forums almost daily. She was known for minor pranks, excellent storytelling, and complaining about her job frequently.
Siren was never given a 'real' name outside of her identification number. Instead, she gradually adopted the name of her avatar.
Siren is Magna Centipede's protégé. Whether she wants to be or not.
