Sigma Virus

The Sigma Virus is a mutant strain of the Sigma Virus when Doctor Doppler, trying to revive a dead Sigma combined the Maverick Virus with a self-replicating repair program. The product was a freak 'virus' that implanted parts of Sigma's personality in infected individuals and forcibly turning them Maverick. One feature of the Sigma Virus was that it mutated frequently and it was a constant race to keep up to date with strains of the virus so infected individuals could be cured in the early stages of infection.

Prevention

The Sigma Virus was contractable by spending too much time in the company of a Maverick and, primarily, through mechanical contact with infected mechfluid. The best way to prevent against full infection was to run full Virus Scans and decontamination as soon as contact with Mavericks was complete and this became common practise in the height of the epidemic.

Use As A Weapon

Some Mavericks used the fear generated from contact with infected material and even the virus itself on many occasions. Crude bombs that spread infected mechfluid as far as possible were devised and forcible infections took place to try and gain powerful members (such as was the case with Duo.EXE). The Sigma Virus also gave breed to two entirely different 'viruses' using parts of the Sigma Virus code named the Vindicare Virus and the deadly Genocide Virus.

Cure

On the 7th of August 2219 the Sigma Virus was cured by a team consisting of Prismatic Spider, Berkana and others. They used the Genocide Virus and its stripped down quality to nullify the effects and this was found to be totally effective against the Sigma Virus as well.
