Profile
Teresa Magrevich is a complicated woman. Most of the world only knows her as an elite executive within her family's firm, Magrevich Industries. Teresa's life story casts her as a sympathetic figure; her mother killed by Mavericks during their first attack on Sydney, her grandfather allegedly murdered by a Protoman impersonator, her former boyfriend murdered by a Maverick home invasion, her husband briefly kidnapped by Gemini Man and many other lesser unfortunate events. Teresa always seems to be mixed up in some sort of horrible peril caused by her family and friends, but continues to be a well-adjusted, productive citizen. Teresa is known for her charitable work and steadfast support of Repliforce, though professionally she is known as a driven, hard-working executive sometimes referred to as "The Red Terror". To a few, Teresa is known as one of the most powerful human beings in the world. Teresa rose in power within Black SHIELD during the final years of the Houseman regime, and had to struggle to survive after Houseman's failed coup. With her extraordinary leadership ability, ruthlessness and brilliance, Teresa managed to bring most of the organization beneath her as the "reformed" organization of Nebula. A master manipulator and flawless liar, Teresa maintains many lives, staying legally spotless while being at the head of an organization that aspires to once more be the shadow government of the world. Vain and proud, Teresa is a health enthusiast who fights a never-ending battle against her own mortality in an effort to stay beautiful. Teresa is also a little sensitive about her age in the same way that Blackguards are slightly nihilistic.
Personality
World 3 Psych Profile: 01 April 2221
Case Officer: Wong, A.
Teresa Magrevich is an objective-driven Type A personality. She is often accused by her MI subordinates as being a domineering micromanager, though her relationship with Gemini Man has apparently softened her abrasive demeanor. She schedules herself very tightly, which is likely a necessity because of the numerous layers of deception she keeps around herself.
Teresa's rigorous devotion to order manifests in everything she does. Any episode of apparent spontaneity is in actuality carefully structured within her acceptable tolerances. Every expression, every utterance, every movement is meticulously assembled to present whatever image Teresa is seeking to convey at that moment. It is very rare that Teresa Magrevich has a true moment of unfiltered honesty with anyone but her closest associates.
Behind Teresa's carefully designed exterior are numerous toxic psychic traumas. The death of her mother fundamentally destroyed her faith in her father, which still may not have returned despite their apparent reconciliation. Her lengthy time beneath Harold Magrevich as a subordinate exposed her to constant emotional and psychological abuses, with allegations of physical abuse as well. Her desire to control everything around her likely was cultured by her need to have a feeling of agency over her own life; a life that, until his death, was owned by Harold.
Teresa enjoys building things, with her primary focus being on building engines and gearwork. Teresa eschews solid state electronics whenever she can in favor of clockwork, particularly in the many clocks she has throughout her home. Her love of machinery may partially explain her relationship with Gemini Man, as he too is a complex machine that she can dismantle and reassemble as needed. The reliability and orderliness of machines contrasts with the natural world, where Teresa often seems to feel ill-at-ease.
It is apparent that Teresa is actually in love with Gemini Man. Gemini provides Teresa with the romance and excitement that she desires, while also having a machine's reliability. Gemini is much more easily repaired than a human, and if he "dies" can be restored from a backup with minimal data loss. Gemini can become anyone he wants to with a thought, and is capable of carrying on elaborate deceptions indefinitely. It becomes obvious to the reader why this notorious mass murdering sociopath would be considered Teresa Magrevich's ideal mate.
Despite Teresa's long-term romantic relationship with Gemini Man, Teresa has apparently remained in love with Charlie Archer. Teresa feels culpable for Charlie's injuries at the hands of Black SHIELD, and has aggressively acted since to protect and assist Charlie from the continued interference of her peers. It is believed that Teresa does not fully reconcile with Charlie because of her belief that she has been fundamentally soiled by her involvement in intelligence work. She is no longer "good enough" for Charlie, nor is she "pure" like she was when they first met. Psychological tampering with Teresa to reinforce these thoughts has not been ruled out.
Teresa is very proud of her appearance. She is fixated on maintaining her physical beauty to the point of injuring herelf. Teresa maintains a grueling exercise and diet program that requires regular interventions by physicians to keep her from developing complications from exhaustion and malnutrition. Teresa spends money lavishly on spa treatments, focusing most of her attention on maintaining her long red-brown hair.
Teresa has several hobbies. She plays squash, is an accomplished archer and has her black glove certification in Savate kickboxing. She loves sports cars and maintains a 2215 Mercedes-Benz convertible as her personal vehicle. The convertible is fire engine red with a manual transmission, with a dual power plant; a standard electrical fusion plant for normal driving and a V12 petroleum engine for performance driving.
Background
Teresa Magrevich was born on August 6, 2188 in a suburb of Sydney. She is the daughter of General Gaus Magrevich and logistics manager for Australian military food services Margaret Norton, and the granddaughter of Harold Magrevich, German industrialist.
Teresa did not seek out military service like her father. As a child, she was more interested in the sciences, and was often in the care of her wealthy and eccentric grandparents. Her grandfather, seeing an opportunity in Teresa he did not have in Gaus, encouraged her pursuit of the sciences. She was found to have a unique ability with electromagnetic systems, and earned a few accolades as a young child in local science fairs.
Like her father, Teresa attended the International School of Geneva. During a visit home just before she was set to gain the equivalent of her high school degree, the Mavericks attacked Sydney. She was with her mother at the time in the midst of the attack, and was saved from being killed by a follow-up Maverick sweep by her mother's self-sacrifice.
Teresa grew distant from her father after her mother's death, spending more time with her grandparents. She attended the Technische Universitat Dresden for her undergraduate and first graduate degrees, then did postdoctoral work at UCSA. Her work with energy systems continued to gain acclaim during her graduate work, but she was quickly assimilated back into the Magrevich company on the successful completion of her last degree.
Teresa's PR blurb on the Magrevich Industries web site lists her interests: squash, polo, archery and Savate kickboxing. Teresa is presently employed as the head of research and development at Magrevich Industries, presently operating out of exile in Rio. She appears to be being groomed to take over the company when Harold finally chooses to retire.
Teresa was a contemporary of Alexia Ashford, who she knew through the international chapter of her sorority, Alpha Omega Mu. There is a picture buried on the AOM Internet presence which shows Teresa -- a pretty girl with long, voluminous reddish-brown hair, green eyes with thick, long eyebrows and a beauty mark at the corner of each cheek -- posing in a group shot with many of her San Angeleno chapter-mates. This shot includes Ms. Ashford, who appears drunk. This may be sinister. Then again, it may just be an unfortunate coincidence, as the two do not appear to be linked in any other way.
Covert Background
World 3 Intelligence: 01 April 2221
Case Officer: Wong, A.
Early History
Teresa Magrevich is the daughter of the Rocket Commando, Gaus "Super Joe" Magrevich. Perhaps more importantly, Teresa is the granddaughter of Black SHIELD conspirator Harold Magrevich. We know today that Harold used Teresa as a mule for intelligence information, introducing her to the shadow world of intelligence work that she was never able to return from.
Teresa sought to win the favor of her grandfather by helping him out in his toils, becoming a low-level Black SHIELD operative. It is suspected that Teresa's interest in this work was driven primarily by anger and resentment of her father, who was unable to protect her mother from the Mavericks during their initial attack against Sydney. The wedge between father and daughter further pushed her into the arms of her abusive, manipulative grandfather, likely creating the woman we know today.
While still primarily working for Harold, Teresa fell in love with Charlie Archer. Archer was also a Black SHIELD operative, though less aware of the organization's true role. The relationship between Teresa and Archer was engineered by Gaus Magrevich in an effort to find his daughter a suitable mate. Harold objected to the pairing, and ultimately attempted to destroy Archer completely to punish the pair for their defiance.
The incident brought Teresa to the attention of Black SHIELD Primus James Houseman IV. Perhaps seeing Teresa as an ally against Harold, Houseman strengthened his connections with Teresa. Many people believed that Houseman began to think of Teresa as a surrogate daughter. Quietly, Houseman began to groom Teresa to be his heir, though he had to take care to avoid drawing the attention of his co-conspirators -- particularly Harold. Mister Famous was aware of Houseman's activities and repeatedly tormented and humiliated Teresa for reasons that remain unclear.
James Houseman and Teresa Magrevich plotted against Black SHIELD to create their new, more perfect world. They were apparently assisted by Mister Famous to some degree, though the level of his involvement may never be known. Houseman's efforts culminated with the failed coup of 2217. Houseman was killed by Pavel Cossack, and then crucified by Protoman.
Forced to fight or die, Teresa Magrevich fought her way through the organization, gathering a group of close associates around her to bring most of Black SHIELD to heel. Harold Magrevich was killed and replaced by a duplicate during this period, unknown to even other members of the organization.
Teresa's ability to unify a highly diverse and eccentric group of people created the Nebula Syndicate from the ruins of Black SHIELD. The Nebula Syndicate began to consolidate power and reconstruct itself while the fragments of Black SHIELD that broke away began their own schemes.
2219
Teresa Magrevich was initially examined by Mister Famous' Gospel organization beginning in 2219. Likely Famous believed that providing Gospel with access to Teresa Magrevich would prompt her to make an error that they could exploit. At the same time, Gemini Man became involved with Teresa Magrevich, seeking leads on the Nebula-sponsored kidnapping and tampering with Albert Wily's mother, Constance Wily.
The Gospel investigation of Teresa Magrevich uncovered little of value to them. Mister Famous' refusal to provide information about her very deep ties to Black SHIELD is perplexing -- why send Gospel to examine the head of Nebula if you are not willing to tell them who she is? We suspect many ulterior motives based on Mister Famous' knowledge of possible future histories. Even this trivial investigation may have been used to shape the future to one Mister Famous felt he had more control over.
Gemini Man's cover identity of "Brandon Archer" was used to form a romantic relationship with Teresa Magrevich. It is clear to us that Teresa knew very early on that "Brandon" was Gemini Man. We are uncertain as to why Teresa continued the relationship, but the "Brandon" relationship lasted from March to December of 2219. During this time, Gemini Man was apparently cultivated as a Nebula asset, murdering the Harold Magrevich duplicate as part of what we believe was an elaborate scheme to disrupt Black SHIELD operations.
Teresa was briefly kidnapped by Protoman with the assistance of Kraft a day after the death of Harold. This prompted military retaliation by the Repliforce, and would have further prompted ADF backup had Teresa not been quickly returned to safety by Colonel. The embarrassing incident made the Gospel organization back off of Teresa and increased tensions between the Hunters and Repliforce. Most significantly, the incident also increased tensions between Protoman and Gospel, and Gospel and the Maverick Hunters.
The Brandon Archer identity became compromised during December 2219. A Nebula operation to destroy evidence of Brandon's dual nature and then "kill" him began. The incident was covered up as random Maverick violence, and was successful despite the knowledge of Protoman and the Gospel organization.
Within days of Brandon's death, Gaus Magrevich was installed as the CEO of Magrevich Industries, and Shield Shellfish joined the MI team as the personal bodyguard to the Magrevich family. These events may have been the objectives of the episode.
2220
Teresa maintained her romantic relationship with Gemini Man by creating the much more thorough cover identity of Maximillian Rothschilde for him to use. Sometime before or after this cover identity was created, Gemini Man was issued the Dragonfly body, giving him access to extensive next-generation holographic systems and sensor bafflers. This allowed Gemini Man to flawlessly decieve Shield Shellfish for almost a year, giving both Teresa and Gemini Man almost perfect cover identities. After all, who would doubt the word of Shield Shellfish?
Teresa spent the summer of 2220 engaged in data collection across Europe. Teresa visited numerous archive sites across the countryside, apparently collecting geneological information for an unknown purpose. During this summer, Teresa was involved with the kidnapping and rescue of Princess Pride from the neo-Nazi paramilitary organization the Thule Society. During this operation, Teresa had a confrontation with Charlie Archer with an ambiguous conclusion. This incident is more interesting when put into the context of Archer's first "death" by Gemini Man in May of 2220.
In October of 2220, Teresa was kidnapped by elements of the Crimson Serpent Triad and taken to Sri Lanka. The Crimson Serpent Triad was involved in a dispute with Charlie Archer based on his involvement with the Gospel organization. A mixed force of Gospel operatives and Hunters retrieved Teresa alongside Shield Shellfish and Gemini Man in his Dragonfly operations mode.
By the end of 2220, Teresa and Gemini Man were preparing to be married. They began constructing a home on the outskirts of Munich, and slowly prepared to consolidate their visible resources into one household. Teresa's former dwelling was destroyed just before the Christmas holiday by Serpent, who was continuing to retaliate against Shield Shellfish for her financial support of the death of William Wiggin. This prompted Teresa's relocation to Munich, where she began operating from full time in January 2221.
2221
Teresa consolidated power during the global emergency from January to March of 2221. She remained out of the public eye and seemed to be entirely focused on planning her wedding. In reality, Nebula worked aggressively during the emergency to eliminate rivals, capture weakly guarded resources and leverage their advantages so to become the dominant power in the post-emergency world environment.
Teresa's Munich property was attacked by an Ouroboros strike force led by Grandmaster Meio in February of 2221. Meio included the brainwashed Charlie Archer in the attack force, who apparently was able to partially resist the orders of Meio because of his strong feelings for Teresa. Meio and Gaus Magrevich engaged in personal combat in and around the property, with the assistance of Gemini Man in his Dragonfly combat mode.
8 March 2221
The unfortunate events of 8 March, "The Wedding Incident", was the largest multi-force engagement of Black SHIELD operatives in the public eye since the coup of 2217. Teresa had apparently planned for an attack, setting up a feint in a drone body disguised by a hologram projected by Gemini Man to act as the groom. When Protoman appeared and "killed" Maximillian, it prompted retaliation from Gemini Man that gave attendants the opportunity to remove Teresa from the combat site.
Once Teresa was removed from the area, full combat operations began. An Ouroboros force of Einherjar and Aesir attacked to draw away Nebula forces, but were flanked by Gospel operatives that slowed down their ability to do damage to the Numbers present. Gaus Magrevich activated his Rocket Commando armor to personally engage Grandmaster Meio in combat, but was shot down by Protoman. Teresa's grandmother called upon Yuriko "Needle" Oozono to support defense operations, who was able to contain the situation until Ouroboros forces were routed. The arrival of the recently freed Charlie Archer further added disorder to the combat sequence.
The battle caused numerous injuries but no fatalities, but the church was judged as a total loss from the extensive combat within the structure. The loss of cultural artifacts prompted more outrage from Australians toward Ouroboros. This change in public opinion may have been the intent of the episode.
14 March 2221
The Professor attacked the Nebula warship Eschaton during the confusion caused by the final ground offensive against Alexia Ashford and the space offensive against Dr. Weil. The strike against the ship prevented it from taking part in the destruction of Eurasia, and precipitated a siege of the ship by Ouroboros forces that occupied most of Nebula's combat resources.
The Gospel organization and the Grave operations group took part in a conflict across the ship. Their conflict culiminated in the execution of Protoman by Teresa. Not long afterward, an extensive battle took place to attempt to murder Teresa, led by Gaus Magrevich. The offensive ended with Gaus' death and Teresa as the decisive victor.
As Teresa gained the upper hand, a contingency measure in Charlie Archer left there by Mister Famous activated, causing him to blindly attack her. Ultimately, Teresa and Charlie killed each other. The incident was apparently engineered by Mister Famous to eliminate all possible opposition so that he could destroy the Earth and remake it as an anarchist paradise. Mister Famous' ambitions were stopped by joint action by Gospel and Grave. Shortly thereafter, Gemini Man was able to resurrect Teresa, Charlie and Gaus using an extradimensional artifact.
Gospel and Grave were removed from the Eschaton by escape pods and TRANS teleportation. After all of the operatives were accounted for, and all combat operations in Europe and in space had ceased, the Eschaton returned to subspace.
Current Status
Teresa Magrevich was able to elude authorities by being able to prove that she had been on Earth during the events described on 14 March. As Black SHIELD has made use of extensive cloning before, it would be impossible to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Teresa was not being impersonated by some means. Her alibis inevitably involve witnesses, sensors and numerous redundant systems that eliminate almost all doubt.
Maximillian Rothschilde was recovered from the custody of Gemini Man alongside Shield Shellfish on 24 March. Shield Shellfish apparently had been duplicated shortly after joining Magrevich Industries, while Maximillian Rothschilde is apparently a real person with an intact medical and electronic trail. Mr. Rothschilde returned to Teresa Magrevich, and the two shortly thereafter went on their honeymoon in Jamaica without incident.
One day, we'll get them both. Until then, we carry on.
