Profile

Pugilation Man is not Hard Man. Where his Master counterpart trained extensively in professional wrestling, Pugiliation Man is a fan of the sweeter science - boxing. Unlike the theatrical conventions of wrestling, boxing is a sport of gentlemen. Pugilation Man believes all fights should be by the book, and loves to challenge his foes to duels provided they understand that hitting below the belt is quite unacceptable in such a challenge. He despises any but the most limited ranged combat: "blasting" one's foes is not Gentlemanly. However, he is quite willing to single out the strongest foe in an attacking force to save his other comrades the trouble of the duel. Once a Robot Gentleman, Pugilation Man heroically fought Ra Moon to defend Roll, and was accepted by the Irregulars after a short period of soul-searching. Pugilation Man has an absurd handlebar moustache of which he is quite prideful.

Background

Pugilation Man was 'created' by Patriarch adjusting the personalities of Robot Masters sent in stasis to Mars to his own personal sensibilities. Subsequently stolen and subjected to hard-coded changes by Scott Wily Pugilation Man died during a strike by Ra Moon aboard the Wily Ark.

Recreated as a minion under Ra Moon's control Pugilation Man was captured under the direction of Steel Massimo by Scarface and brought into the custody of the Hunters. Whilst in Medical the sight of Ra Moon attempting Soul Erasure on Roll broke Pugilation Man from the control of the Destroyer and caused him to beat the Last Child Of Mars into retreat.

Pugilation Man spent a few weeks after that travelling from place to place and experiencing the world until, after advice from Giga Man, settled down with other Androids freed from WilyCode in the Irregulars.

Trivia/Facts

  • Though Pugilation Man 'died' and was 'resurrected' he refuses to talk about the experience and thus any glimpse of what it was like (as well as the time passed between) cannot really be gleaned.
  • Pugilation Man feels he owes a great debt to Epsilon for taking part on the destruction of his friends on Mars and this is part of his reason for being with the faction.
  • Pugilation Man is actually a reasonably accomplished typist (despite his inclination towards doing it whilst wearing boxing gloves).
  • Pugilation Man feels a strong attachment to Roll that only hardship could have forged and would (as is the case with many others) protect her even at the cost of his own life.

The Queensbury Rules

1. To be a fair stand-up boxing match in a twenty-four foot ring or as near that size as practicable.
Essential this equals Pugilation Man's desire for fighting to be conducted on an equal plane. He prefers flat surfaces to fight on and for there to be no obstacles (like rocks to hide behind or pits) that impedes the two fighters from completing the important duty of conducting the fight.

2. No wrestling or hugging allowed.
This one more or less speaks for itself. Pugilation Man is not a fan of 'wrestling' and moves he considers to be associated with wrestling though the use of 'hugging' for him speaks of an attack that stuns or restricts the movement of another. 'Hugging' them does just this and therefore Pugilation Man views things like grapples and most stuns in this fashion.

3. The rounds to be of three minutes duration and one minute time between rounds.
Again this is something that Pugilation Man interprets as meaning that duels should be conducted in a forthright and simple manner. The time allowed allows no room for excessive speeches or 'showboating' though a moment to gather ones thoughts (time between rounds) is allowed for as long as it doesn't take too long.

4. If either man fall through weakness or otherwise, he must get up unassisted, ten seconds be allowed to do so, the other man meanwhile to return to his corner; and when the fallen man is on his legs the round is to be resumed and continued until the three minutes have expired. If one man fails to come to the scratch in the ten seconds allowed, it shall be in the power of the referee to give his awart in favour of the other man.
This is interpreted as not kicking (or punching, obviously) an opponent when he is down and giving them a fair chance to stand up and continue the duel without resorting to low down tricks of trying to knock them out prematurely.

5. A man hanging on the ropes in a helpless state, with his toes off the ground, shall be considered down.
Pugilation Man views this as not attacking an individual that has been or is being impeded by their surroundings rather than something that has occurred as a consequence to their duel. For example Pugilation Man will wait for an opponent to pull his foot out of quicksand before trying to attack again rather than taking this as an opportunity to land a cheap shot.

6. No seconds or any other person to be allowed in the ring during the rounds.
Fights are to be conducted one at a time. Pugilation Man will not 'gang beat' his opponents and considers it rude for many to fight him at a time. He will conduct in team battles etc but on the condition that he and his opponent are allowed to conduct their fight privately but for team benefit.

7. Should the contest be stopped by any unavoidable interference, the referee (is) to name the time and place as soon as possible for finishing the contest, to that the match can be won and lost, unless the backers of the men agree to draw the stakes.
Pugilation Man has many views on this subject. The first is that 'unavoidable interference' can take the form of natural forces, an individual or any other random event that skews the fight in the favour of an individual or another. 'The referee' can either refer to himself or the opponent (since Pugilation referees himself and expects his opponent to do the same) or simply fate. Conflicts are not to be left unresolved and either one or the other wins or both state openly that it was a draw.

8. The gloves to be fair-sized boxing gloves of the best quality and new.
This rule is accepted literally by Pugilation Man as an edict that the equipment used should be the best. If an individual uses a broken or unreliable weapon against Pugilation Man it will probably draw his attention.

9. Should a glove burst, or come off, it must be replaced to the referee's satisfaction.
This is also taken literally and is seen to apply more to him than to his opponents.

10. A man on one knee is considered down, and if struck is entitled to the stakes.
Pugilation Man considers this rule to say 'if an opponent is down (knocked out) and is subjected to further mistreatment this is a breach of the rules' and prefers individuals to be left alone when unconscious. If they are meddles with Pugilation Man will usually insist that the victor is in fact the loser due to their breaking of the Queensbury Rules.

11. No shoes or boots with springs allowed.
Pugilation Man views this rule as being a ban on technology that is used to give an unfair advantage to either one of the opponents. For example these may include (obviously) springs in the shoes but also covers reflect systems, forcefields and blink drives.

12. The contest in all other respects to be governed by the revised rules of the London Prize Ring.
The law of the land (for example Tartarus' views on fighting) should be held with as much attention than the above rules or rules agreed upon before the fight.

The Essential Formula

(Hard Man + Green) + Handlebar Moustache + Monocole = Pugilation Man.
