Profile

One of the most experienced members of the Maverick Hunters, Michael Eildath has been fighting the Robot Wars for more than a decade. After watching his family die under Fire Man's assault during the destruction of San Angeles, he joined the UN Armed Forces, fighting both against the Robot Masters and his own self-destructive attitude. When Repliforce was formed, he went from a position in a Rapid Robot Master Response Platoon to civilian life as a police officer. This eventually led him to the Maverick Hunters, and peace with his tortured past. A rational, often easy-going fellow, he's always ready with a jibe or sarcastic barb in a tense situation. Michael has experienced more in his thirty-odd years than some have faced in their entire lives, giving him a wealth of combat experience and skill, able to push aside his emotions and concentrate fully on the task at hand. Having faced death on more than one occasion, he has a unique perspective on life and tries to act as an advisor for the younger Hunters, hoping they can benefit from what he's experienced. A pyrotechnician and demolitions specialist, he wields the customized Incinerator Rifle as his primary weapon, a multipurpose weapon of his own design. One of the best pilots in the world, he can fly or drive virtually any vehicle ever built, and pilots the customized power armor Desperado, as well as the Hunter Ride Armors. While his human body is not as durable as his fellow Hunters, Michael doesn't let that stop him, and many consider him just as dangerous as the most experienced of combat Reploids.

Background

Mike was born June 4, 2182, the middle child of Edward & Julia Eildath. He spent his infancy in Kentucky with his parents and older brother Andrew. When he was six, his father was transferred to San Angeles, where Mike grew up. His younger brother Bradley Eildath was born two years later. He attended elementary and high school there, and was a senior in 2200 when the Robot Wars began.

When the Robot Wars began, Michael and his family obeyed the military and stayed in their homes, confident that the robotic threat would soon be vanquished. Unfortunately, it was not to be, as their home lie directly in the path of Fire Man's forces. Andrew was killed trying to start the family car when they tried to escape, and his mother soon followed. Their house buckled under a massive attack, and Michael was separated from his brother, believing him dead. He could do little more than watch as Fire Man choked his father, throwing him through a wall and leaving him for dead. He spent several days in the rubble, eating rats and trying to keep his father alive, before rescue. It was here he saw Protoman for the first time, never forgetting the face of the Robot Master who saw him, but didn't kill him.

Michael lost one of his two best friends in the assault, the other still a citizen of the city, serving with the SAPD. He also lost Andrea Jacobson, his girlfriend since middle school. Michael still goes to her grave every year on her birthday and leaves an engagement ring on her tombstone.

Now under the care of his grandparents, Michael finished his senior year in Kentucky, applying for and being accepted into the University of Kentucky. He was less than a stellar student, still haunted by the death of his family. He turned to alcohol and cigarettes, flirting with other drugs as his grades plummeted. Only the attention of another, a girl named Julie Russell who felt sorry for him, kept him from flunking out completely. It was a short-lived relationship, as Michael quietly joined the military at the start of his second semester after a failed suicide attempt at his parents' graves.

Michael served in the Army for nearly three years, winding up in and out of the brig several times as he clashed with officers and fellow soldiers alike. He tries to take his own life several more times, both at home and on the battlefield, but several indiscretions are looked over because of the military's need for anyone to fight the Robot Masters. As the time passes, Mike earns a reputation for insane valor and guts, singlehandedly taking on a division of Joes in an attempt to save his group from an ambush. Somehow survives, and is quickly dubbed Immortal by his fellow soldiers, a nickname Mike loathes.

His grandparents pass away in 2203, and with the rise of the Repliforce, Michael accepts a standard discharge that winter. He spends a few months in Bluegrass City working as a firefighter before entering the Kentucky State Police Academy. He spends nearly seven years with the police, and was well-liked by his fellow officers.

In the winter of 2208 Michael suffers his worst setback. Unable to visit his parents' graves that winter due to an undercover assignment, he panics, becoming delusional, and attacks a reploid, thinking him to be Fire Man. The reploid blasts Mike, who isn't wearing his police uniform, and runs, leaving Michael dying on the street. He wakes up from a coma three weeks later, and spends much of the year in rehabilitation. It is this moment that changes his outlook on life, realizing how close his own self-pity came to getting himself killed.

In 2211 he resigns from the police, traveling to Japan and attempting to apply into the Maverick Hunters. His earnest desire to help and his reputation somehow win him a meeting with the group, and he is brought aboard that fall, the first human to be recruited into the group from outside.

IC History

-- 2212 --

Michael is nearly killed during the emergence of the Stardroids this year, and is rescued by the duplicitous Double, who fights off a hologram of his Maverick form in his Hunter guise, fooling a half-dead Michael. Michael is still finding his legs in the unit, and is nearly killed fighting off Frost Man later in the year.

-- 2213 --

Shortly before the alternate universe incursion, Michael is surprised at his parent's graves by Snake Man, who nearly kills him. He spends much of the week in a shock and flu-induced daze, only to come to his senses when a teleporter mishap brings the alternate universe X and Mega Man into being. This does not convince him that he is entirely sane, of course. Later that year he is nearly killed by Snake Man's poison, but manages to fight it off.

This year, Michael is moved from Dragonfire into his own squadron, Phoenixflame, a training squadron which he co-commands with fellow Hunter Seminole.

In March, Michael is dispatched to a riot in Neo-Tokyo, and rescues a rioter from a Maverick who aimed to kill him. Michael finds out a few days later that this is none other than his brother, Bradley Williams Eildath, who escaped Fire Man and grew up among the gangs in the ruins that still pockmarked the city. Bradley attacks Mike, thinking that he abandoned him, and disappears.

In June, Michael is killed by the Stardroid Saturn, resuscitated by Zero but plagued with nightmares about the incident for the next four years. As the Stardroids pronounce judgment upon the world, Michael pitches in to save it, taking down the Stardroid Jupiter with the assistance of fellow Maverick Hunter Mac.

In the first Battle & Chase games, held after the defeat of the Stardroids, Michael and Zero tie for the gold medal in the auto race.

Bradley Williams joins Kaust Losstaret's Children of Eve that December, setting the two brothers against each other.

-- 2214 --

Early in this year, Rock introduces Michael to Kendra Njara, and the two begin a year-long relationship that, while it ends the next year, is the high point of Michael's year. He still holds a soft spot for Kendra, and probably always will.

Over the year, Michael is involved in trying to win his brother back from the dangerously unstable Losstaret, risking his own life to save him during a battle with the Robot Masters. Though he manages to rescue Brad, it is not without cost: Bradley is permanently changed, turned into a cyborg by Losstaret's doctors. The final bonding comes when Bradley is almost killed by the insane scientist Landon DeVry. Michael nearly kills the doctor, and the bond between the brothers is restored.

In February, the Mavericks frame Repliforce and set off a devastating war that nearly destroys Repliforce. Michael fights and kills the Repliforcer Cryogen Bison while trying to protect Rock, and quits the Maverick Hunters, only to return in the aftermath and assume command, Zero and Rock both abdicating as the truth is revealed. Michael commands the Maverick Hunters for only a week or two before order is restored, and returns to Phoenixflame Squadron.

When Seminole is killed fighting Vile later that year, Michael becomes sole CO of Phoenixflame, and is later promoted to an XO position next to Zero. This is short-lived, as he steps down that winter to head up construction of the new Maverick Hunter base in the South Pacific.

-- 2215 --

Michael serves the Hunters with distinction during this year, fighting valiantly as the Mavericks and Robot Masters take large swaths of land in Europe and Africa. This is a slow year for Michael, highlighted by a return to the winner's circle in the third Battle & Chase games, bringing home the gold for the Maverick Hunters.

Michael spends much of this year supporting Kalinka Cossack's bid to become a Maverick Hunter, a decision that later haunts him when she is disgraced and nearly imprisoned in 2216 after masterminding an attempt to assassinate Adrian Vorlaikal, the director of Interpol.

When the Stardroids return that fall, Michael helps as best he can, but is saddened when he hears of the final fate of Jupiter, whom he befriended before defeating two years earlier. Visiting Starhaven with Kalinka Cossack, Michael sees a hologram that triggers a flashback to his death under Saturn's hands, and some of his hair is permanently streaked white from the shock.

-- 2216 --

Michael spends much of this year swept up in the furor around Kalinka Cossack's removal from the Maverick Hunters, spending much of it dealing with internal matters. Michael proves himself to be as good an officer as he is a fighter, working hard to keep an increasingly fractious group together and not actively killing each other.

In the spring, two asteroid strikes demand the attention of the world, and Michael spends a lot of time helping with the recovery efforts.

During the middle of the year, he goes undercover in the Balkan States, infiltrating several gangs of dangerously unstable Skinners, trying to rally together support for a strike into Europe. During this time he meets Elpizo, future leader of Neo Arcadia, for the first time.

The Robot Masters attack the Maverick Hunter base in the early fall, and Michael helps in the defense, though he is nearly killed due to blood loss. Some of the Hunters, particularly Doctor Cossack, think of this as the second time Mike has died in service to the Hunters.

Late in the year, Michael and Hunter Tech Wildrider begin designing the Desperado power armor, soon to be Michael's primary weapon in his fight against the Robot Masters.

-- 2217 --

Michael is killed during the destruction of Light Labs, and rushed to Switzerland to undergo emergency procedures, where many of his organs are cloned and replaced in a process known as organ printing. Michael is renewed, and as a side effect comes to terms with the maddening visions inflicted on him by the Stardroid Saturn.

In April, he vanishes undercover to investigate the new human supremacist group known as Neo Arcadia. He learns that their leader, Elpizo, is interested in Michael's genetic material as part of their search for strong DNA to use in their enhanced-human process. Elpizo and Mike met several times in the past, and by October are sworn enemies.

Michael races in the Battle & Chase, but is robbed of victory at the end of the last lap by Dust Man... but he will race again.

In August, Mike has an encounter with Fairy Leviathan that results in a brief relationship. This lasts until early October, when the pair officially go their separate ways.

-- 2218 --

During the spring, Michael secretly helps establish the Tower of Light, though he is devastated when Foucalt, his friend, goes Maverick. The loss of the Fort Sam Houston is a blow to Mike, even though he'd already moved out, as he spent a lot of time making the place a home.

In late May, Mike is reunited with an old flame, Kendra Njara. They see each other a few times, but work quickly quells any chance of a renewed relationship.

Mike nearly quits the Hunters when Wily and Light start working together.

Mike plays a key role in the siege of Berlin, planting the explosives that cripple the foundations of the Spire, allowing the concentrated fire of those who participated to topple it so dramatically.

He attempts a last-ditch effort to prevent the ban of Reploids in Australia that falls on deaf ears.

In September, he helps rescue Dr. Cossack from the hands of Neo Arcadia. This does nothing to help the death sentence he already carries there.

In October, Michael meets Sarah Henderson, one of Dr. Light's interns, after a skydive from the Space Elevator. A relationship blossoms almost immediately, though Mike keeps it low profile.

-- 2219 --

Michael Eildath is the first human being to step on Martian soil. His first words are those of Stephen King. "This is it... I am in the West." He fights against Ra Moon's forces, and is nearly killed in the final battle.

Michael attempts to retake the gold in Battle & Chase, only to fall victim to numerous competitors. Instead, he ensures that no Maverick, Neo Arcadia, or Robot Master wins the gold.

Michael plays in the concert that lures in and binds the unkillable Ra Moon. Picking up the guitar and working with the Bandroids, he plays KISS's 'God Gave Rock & Roll To You II', with the Steve Vai intro from Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey.

Mike takes a hard line against Blues when he returns to the Hunters after siding with Ra Moon. Though he abides by the tribunal's decision to accept the first android's return, his trust in Blues is forever broken, as is much of his respect for Zero and Dr. Light. His faith in Rock is ultimately what prevents him from leaving the organization.

When portals are opened to alternate realities, Michael is shaken when he finds his family still alive in one of them. He ventures to few, meeting his alternate self in a fantasy world and learning to use a hand crossbow.

-- 2220 --

Feeling increasingly isolated from the Hunters due to Protoman and Dr. Light's erratic behavior, Michael takes on a secondary job with the Australian military as an instructor to would-be armor pilots. He begins to share with them the skills he's learned through years of the Robot Wars. He continues to work with the Hunters, however, and is on the front lines during the final battle in the dimensional void against the insane X.

As the year goes on, Michael takes a hard line against Blues, and votes for his expulsion from the Hunters when it becomes clear that he is not going to play by the rules. An unexpected side-effect comes when Rock steps down from Hunter Command, leaving Mike in charge of the Maverick Hunters.

Mike takes to command again reluctantly, and is quickly reviled by many of the Hunters by his staunch opposition to the tacit support for Gospel offered by the Hunter core of the group. This culminates in an ultimatum: support the pirates or support the Hunters. Alloy & Nana leave the group, and several Hunters remain aligned with the group in various degrees of secrecy. This causes Eildath no amount of stress, but he vows to keep at it, knowing that the Hunters need a leader.

-- 2221 --

Ragnarok occurs. Michael works himself to exhaustion on the front line, saving lives and killing zombies. He directs the Hunter efforts against Ashford and Weil, but plays largely a background role due to his vulnerable human physiology. He ensures that his remaining family is safe, but loses his brother, Bradley, to the influence of The Professor.

Michael is savagely injured during a mission in Spain, and is in traction for most of the endgame of the war against Ashford and Weil. He is wracked with guilt about not being able to be there after three of his Hunters die, but keeps it hidden, concentrating on rebuilding afterwards. He recruits several new Hunters, and allows back several of the members of Gospel when that organization falls apart.

When Dr. Light is killed and the Wily Code of Alpha Squadron is broken, Michael is forced to confront Fire Man, the Hunter's hatred for the killer of his parents blinding him to all else. Fire Man, remorseful over the acts committed by his past self, manages to win Michael's trust, but he remains uncomfortable around the Alpha. Some wounds take a long time to heal.

As of April 2221, Michael remains in command of the Hunters with Zero as his XO and Signas and Kraft as unofficial third keys.
