Pre-Repliforce
Little is known of Mercurial Mongoose's history prior to joining Repliforce, presumably because it was really, really uninteresting.
Repliforce
Mercurial enlisted in Repliforce in late 2218, and was promoted to Corporal shortly after his exit from boot camp. Speculation as to the cause of this rapid promotion has varied, with the two most popular purported causes being his above-average combat ability, or an unsubstantiated rumour that a weary sergeant promoted Mercurial to get him out of his platoon.
Death
Mercurial Mongoose was part of a rescue operation planned to save the young girl known as Alouette. He was killed in action when Master Wiggin crushed his neural net.
Character Traits
Physical Characteristics
Based on the traditional humanoid animal Reploid build, Mercurial's frame resembles that of an Indian mongoose. Standing six feet even in height when fully erect, Mercurial typically appears much shorter, due to a tendency to hunch over. His legs are short and powerful, and he possesses overly long arms with exaggerated fingers and talons. These allow him to run on all fours, which he must do in order to reach his top speeds. Cruising and combat velocities are both listed as subsonic.

Armament
Armour
Modified non-nerpium Reploid combat plating. Plating is lighter than usual for combat-issue Reploids in order to reduce weight and maximize energy efficiency at upper velocities. Mongoose's plating is of a relatively new design devised by Repliforce scientists. Woven into the structure is an experimental protein mesh exhibits a slight resistance to ionizing agents, granting partial immunity to biological, chemical and radiological agents comparable to that of standard HAZMAT gear.
Claws
The fingers of both forepaws are tipped by inch-long talons composed of a titanium alloy, suitable for combat and movement both above and below ground. The need for quadripedal motion during combat velocities means the talons cannot be honed to a noticeable edge. Damage is instead increased by combining hand-to-hand combat blows with high-speed movement, tearing targets rather than cutting them, per se.
Acid
Standard weapons deployment also includes a supply of weaponized acid. Stored in the abdomen, the acid is typically deployed through the esophagus and the mouth. This function was initially designed to serve as deployment for nonmilitary acids, that could burn through particularly tough subterranean ores during search and rescue operations, specifically in mines. Repliforce has, however, substituted a weaponized superacid and upgraded the containment unit. While the delivery system was not designed for military use, it has proven to be a surprisingly effective weapon in close quarters.
- Antimony pentafluoride (SbF5) is typically used; this well-known superacid is effective on all known organic materials, and most inorganics.
Teeth
Mercurial Mongoose's teeth are composed of the same alloy as his claws, and his jaws have been strengthened with hydraulics to produce substantial crushing power. When combined with acid delivery, most substances short of nerpium can be penetrated easily.
