Profile

Quote: "Where is my backup? I need a tankbuster, a squad to pick off those foot troops and some air support, right away!"

Profile: Having been a soldier for the UN for two decades, even before the formation of Interpol, Max has experienced a lot, and dodged a lot of bullets. He's well-known for avoiding the Normandy Massacre because he overslept. This doesn't make him unreliable, by any means. On the contrary, he is an extremely skilled pilot, specializing exclusively in piloting Armors- Rides or his customized 'ZIKOMO Ade' Armour. Fully trained for fighting combat in any number of environments, he has seen a lot, yet always finds himself surprised by the changing face of warfare. Although he may initially seem standoffish to people, it is mostly because of his sense of professionalism. Formidable even outside of his armour, he carries a knife with an electrical pod in its handle, and a large custom gun with several firing options, as well as extensive armour built into what usually looks like normal clothes.

Skills: Never Promoted, Weird, Annoying Aegis, Military Teaching, Multilingual- English/Swahili/Max and Shinobu's Secret Code, Roughhousing With Gatts, One Part Sosuke Sagara, One Part Older Brother, One Part Little Kid, Four Parts JUNGLE, The Twins' Long-Suffering Brother

Background

Max Armour was born Raimi Mwokozi in the villages of Africa in aroundabout 2184, give or take a few years, older brother to Yuna and Sera, although he was only a few years older than them and neither of them remember him especially. During the opening of the first mass teleporter system in Ghana, Raimi was involved in a teleporter accident, whereupon he was transported to Seoul.

He was discovered by a little girl named Shinobu Williams, child to two UN mechanics. Unable to speak one another's language, the two children were forced to communicate to one another through guesture, but they soon got tired of communicating and picked up a ball and started playing. When Shinobu's parents found her, she explained that he was a lost boy.

Raimi met some UN translators, who explained that he had come from Ghana. He would have been returned, but Shinobu was very insistent- he was staying here. She'd made a new friend and she was not letting him go. So Raimi remained under the care of the Williams family for over ten years.

During this period, he and Shinobu were inseperable. What began as a tiny friendship became a solid rapport, and as they entered their teenage years, an attraction. They realised that what they felt for one another was love.

Then, in 2220, the Robot Wars began. Max enlisted, as did Shinobu, in the UN army, in a bid to protect the world from Wily's attacks. Shinobu's father was killed by a Joe patrol, and things began to look bad for one another. Max vowed to protect Shinobu, and began a meteoric rise in the ranks of the army. Over the next fifteen years, Max would become a respected veteran soldier and ride armor pilot, developing a tactical mastermind ability and a massive talent in battle. He trained for several years under the wing of the Japanese defence corps android Bullet, who taught him how to pilot, and the two became the greatest of comrades.

When the interdimensional thing called the Nigh threatened the earth, Max and Shinobu really thought their number was up. Max proposed to Shinobu, and she accepted without any hint of 'you're just asking me because we might all be doomed!'. As it turned out, they weren't. Two years later, he would be asked to join Interpol.

That's when it all got started.

In 2217, the Power Armor corps were developed. One of the greatest pilots in the UN, Max's name was one of the first put on the list for work in the corps. Unfortunately, he overslept and missed the boat. This was probably really lucky, as the bloodbath is recorded in history as a truly massive one. Max looked at what happened and felt sort of awkward.

A few months later, he would be given his own power armor by the Cossack of PAs, Dr. Deo Darrius. Max threw himself into work at Interpol, although he was very much disappointed by the lack of structure in comparison to the army. He met Sarah Fairchild and was generally distrustful of Gate, and he ended up in a fierce, prank-filled, anger-laden rivalry with Gabriel. He performed several deep undercover missions, including one that meant he missed the climactic battle against Black SHIELD.

Over the next year, Max would proceed to develop a reputation for himself... as an intolerable, annoying, stubborn old goat. Max's hard-bitten army ways didn't jar with pretty much any other heroic faction in the world, and he pined for the days of the army. He chummed around with Bullet, missing the old days, and got involved in her adventures. In particular, he fought to defend her when she was victimised by the Robot Masters and Yakuza.

He decided he didn't like Javelin Whitetail immediately either, and clashed with her on numerous occasions. It was during this time that he met Yuna once again, and the reunion with the sister he never knew was very emotional. When she was kidnapped by the Yakuza, Max entered a singular fury he had never experienced before, and developed a bloody rivalry with the shadow hunter Chet.

He went on to meet Sera, in Eurasia, and revealed that he was her brother. They agreed that their family ties would mean nothing to one another, and that they would fight their hardest to defeat one another. He was also very upset when it was supposed that Bullet had died, and was not at all sure what his reaction was to the personality inhabiting her corpse called Aegis. He was very happy when the deception was revealed. When Javelin betrayed Interpol to the Mavericks, he was forced to single-handedly command the defence of the Shambala base. It was nevertheless for naught, and Interpol was crushed.

Max loitered in Checkpoint Charlie, despondant. When the Yakuza collapsed, he journeyed into the jungles to fight Sera, but was defeated. He recieved an invitation to join STARS, which he accepted with no small degree of regret. Max began to pine for the days of Interpol, completely unable to act in the role of a police officer. He recieved some measure of happiness when STARS joined with Repliforce, but their numbers began to dwindle radically, and he stopped seeing a lot of his old friends.

When the Robot Gentlemen appeared, Max found another cause to fight for. He developed something of a one-sided rivalry with Cryogenic Man, and upgraded his ZIKOMO to the ZIKOMO Ade form. Max attended the battle of Tora Bora and was intstrumental in destroying a massive swathe of the reaverbot army. Following the defeat of the Robot Gentlemen, he would refine his power armor further.

Max disappeared at some point during the alternate reality incident. Shinobu and the ZIKOMO Ade were gone, but many of his belongings remained. While it seems unusual for Max to go AWOL, it remains uncertain. He was declared MIA.

Trivia/Facts

  • Max Armour has developed more subtle references to super robots over the years, although he began as a reference to Warhammer 40,000.
  • Max was very shocked by the death of Gabriel, and believed she didn't deserve to die in the way she did.
  • Max is as protective as Yuna as most people are of Roll and Kalinka.
  • Max does things by the book and has a massive dislike of mercenaries, especially Red Alert.

Other

Max is his player's oldest OC and one of the older characters on the MUSH.

Author's Notes

Max was definitely one of the most interesting characters I've played at M3. He was able to establish a large amount of personal relationships with people, and all in all he was a very polarising character. He never really fit with M3, but that's what made him so entertaining to play. He was sometimes ruthless, cold, militaristic, but he never grew up 'right' and was desperate for emotional sustainance.

I'd like to pick him up again one day, but not now. I just hope I can get him approved again ;D

I'm very happy with the design of his power armor, it comes from a super robot toy I enjoyed as a child and because of that it's very special to me. ZIKOMO had a lot of upgrades and changes over the years and I'd really like to get a proper picture of it drawn one day. I'll probably re-use it in the future. Max was also a character I'll use again in the future... in fact, last year I inserted him into some independant creative writing that went down quite well. I should show it off some time.
