Profile
Created by the Maverick Hunter scientist and engineer Auto, Mac is his first attempt at a fully functioning reploid robot. Trying to mimic the Hunters Rock and Blues, Mac has the look down pat. Cool, sleek, stylish, and even has the shade visor. But on closer examination, his motto would be, "I don't have the right stuff." Programmed to think he's up to Mega Man and Protoman's level in abilities, Mac always barrels head first into conflict, always does the valiant thing, and of course, always saves the damsel in distress. Armed with the completely undevastating Mac Buster, he fires globules of plasma after his enemies without concern for his own safety. Since, usually, just firing the weapon causes him to explode. However, Mac is good at heart, and tries to do the right thing. Even if he is a tag along; a somewhat annoying one at that.
Background
What is the measure of a Hero? If it is power, then indeed many could be considered Heroes, in particular Bass and Sigma. But... In that case, it is obviously not true. What is it then, if not power, that begets the heroic act? Intention? Intention can be clouded, warped. The borders between good and bad blurred depending on who you wish to give justice to. Surely something so... Corruptible cannot measure such a thing. In that case, moderation is needed. Moderation that resists the outside factors, and simple works for one thing - justice. This is the heart. If the heart is the true measure of a Hero - then Mac is one. Undeniably.
Mac, his very name inspires terror. Or at least it should. Be around Mac and trouble is abound. This is not to say he... Attracts it in any way, shape, or form however if is confronted with injustice? He will react. Of course, by reacting he puts himself and his team mates into more danger than perhaps even the enemy, as the 'Mac Buster' tends to explode more often than it does wheedle out even the smallest globule of power.
But... What a curious affliction this is. A Maverick Hunter, one created by the son of the Father of modern AI no less, with uncles such as Rock and Blues being no more than a joke in terms of combat ability and by no fault of his own. If you were to look at Mac... What would you expect? A half finished University project, at best. Not the dedicated first design of a Maverick Hunter Head Engineer. So how did it come to be? How did such a... Reploid come into existence? Not a failure, no, not by any means - but what sequence of events led to Mac's heart not having the tools it required to deliver the freedom, and justice he believes is right for him to unleash.
Mac. One could almost say the project was doomed in the beginning. To this point, each creation had been gifted with a name that accurately reflected themselves, to a degree. Megaman, Protoman Rock, Blues - however Auto did not consider himself to be a slave to the conventions of his father, and therefore his creation was named something different. Mac, the name indicated a certain informality and detachment. Mac was a hero, and part of a hero was his mystique. The name reflect Auto's obvious ideals to have Mac aloof, and detached. Unfortunately for him, of course, he fell to misfortune. Mac, the name of a twentieth century computer system, renowned for it's hardware not being compatible with other systems, and other systems hardware not being compatible with it. Fate is not without irony.
The purpose of Mac's personality changed later in his creation. He became more... The ideal hero. He was programmed to uphold good, justice, and truth. He would save the damsel, and seize the day. However his name remained, in part due to Auto's reluctance to change the very basis of the Reploid simply due to a new way that his son would act. After all, who changes the name of their children if they do not comply to the deeper meaning of the name given to them? Then the cracks in the Reploid's creation began to emerge.
Mac was... Incompatible. Unique to other Reploids, his neural net had been encoded in a different way. Still a Reploid, essentially a computer he operated under a different sequence of agendas. Of course, he could still be affected by such things as virii and to a greater extent the Maverck Virus, however his mind worked in a vastly different way to other Reploids - an intentional flaw by Auto. This is to say... With Mac... No hardware, or peripherals were compatable. At first, he was gifted by Dr. Light to receive a Buster, loaded with unobtainium as well as combat equipment that Auto and Dr. Light could supply. When attached, however, they... Simply didn't work. The Reploid could hardly move.
At this point, the Mac project had reached an extremely low ebb. What were they to do? Mac was, essentially, incapable. He couldn't move, only speak. This strange anomaly didn't seem to affect Mac in any other way than how he reacted with his arms and legs, either - making it quite curious. It was Auto who worked hardest at trying to figure out the dilemma of his only son, and in the end it seemed one solution was possible: jury rigging. Certain parts were supplemented for others, and the buster Dr. Light made was exchanged for a different, less powerful (but working) one.
In the end, only certain parts would work. The rest were almost literally held together with lego, K'Nex, string spit and hope. His body was weak and unreliable but he had one redeeming quality, one quality that assured his place in the Hunters despite his... Questionable use: Heart. He /wanted/ to be a Hero, and make the world a better place for Reploids, Humans and all life to live in.
However, of course, training was needed. Lots, and /lots/ of training. Although put into active duty where he got the reputation of being a bit of a tag along, but a worthwhile one considering his morale boosting look on life and the 110% he put into practically everything there were just certain /qualities/ missing with Mac that were there with other Reploids, such as strength and firepower. Due to this, he needed special classes just to deal with his shortcomings. After a period, however, he began to deal with his setbacks and settled in quite nicely to being an... At least... /Competent/ member of the faction.
There is, however, always advances. Always ways to supplement, and improve on design. This is most evident with Mega Man, and his plethora with armors. Arguably the most powerful, the 'Falcon' armor is a mighty armor capable of flight and tremendous amounts of firepower. Therefore, using snippets of this technology, it was time for Mac to get an upgrade. With the leaps and bounds in technology, it was also far easier to give him an armor mode that actually /worked/ better and brought him to - almost - standard Reploid capabilities. Of course, this was an armor mode he couldn't just... /Sit/ in, and was very taxing on the body of Mac to morph into.
Since then, Mac has, well, continued to be Mac. He's proving himself to be a Hero every now and again, when people aren't getting tired of him for his... Tagalong way, that is.
Trivia/Facts
- Mac is, perhaps, the poorest Maverick Hunter in the faction. He is constantly overspending and getting in over his head financially and unintentionally drains on the resources of Auto to balance his monthly costs.
- Mac has on-and-off infatuations with Cinnamon and Nana depending on who is kinder to him that week. Its largely a misplaced feeling of gratitude and Mac has been known to inconvenience them at times through his efforts to impress them (like stuffing their rooms full of roses).
- Mac, despite his apparent incompetency, can be quite an effective asset to the Maverick Hunters. With Michael Eildath he defeated the Stardroid Jupiter and with the assistance of Max Armour he landed the killing blow on Ra Nemesis, an evil biomonster created by Ra Moon.
- Mac once possessed an armor called 'Apple Mac' that allowed him to function to an equivalent level as other Maverick Hunters, though Dr. Light's revolutionary system caused problems for Mac in terms of excess power build up that caused him to become aggressive and ill tempered so it had to be removed.
- Mac has been known to grate on people (Dr. Cossack) due to his success despite competency or hard work.
Other
- Mac has a robodog companion created by Auto called Fret. Whether through a similar technical fault or plain laziness it has the ability to turn into modes of transportation for Mac but more frequently does not.
- If Magma Dragoon is Akuma, Tornado Dragoon is Ken and then Mac is Dan. He even has coded Saikyo Ryu attacks.
