Profile
Josef Holznecht achieved a level of fame for winning the 2218 Mr. Universe contest, coming close to taking the Guiness for the World's Most Perfectly Built Man. However, the good news for the Austrian did not last long, as his right arm was rather violently removed in a Robot Master attack. He was already dedicated to achieving perfection - Josef was certain that man could still overtake machine if he tried. The loss of his right arm pushed him over the edge, and Josef went over to Neo Arcadia, where Cerveau built him a cybernetic right arm called the CRUSH System to replace the one he lost. The genial powerhouse is now a member of the Neo Arcadian army, doing what he does best: punching things very hard, and then doing it again.
Background
Josef Holznecht was born in Austria on August 4th, 2193. With his father staying at home to take care of him and his mother almost never around, Josef grew up with a healthy - too healthy - interest in sports. While Josef excelled in athletics, he neglected his school, and developed into something of the proverbial meathead. Josef's bodybuilding started as he entered high school, as he grew dissatisfied with the robot domination of professional sports.
Upon graduating with high school (with C's) Josef simply stayed at home for the next three years, continuing to work out and go into local sports under his father's proud eye. When his father abruptly died of illness, Josef found himself with no attachments, and decided to put his pain behind him and move to Michigan, where he worked in a warehouse for four years until entering the Mr. Universe competitions, which he finally won in 2218.
Almost immediately afterward, however, Josef lost his right arm to Metal Man in a Robot Master attack. This finally cemented Josef's bitterness toward AI, and he threw in with Neo Arcadia in the Fire Squad.
IC History
For a long time, Josef did not distinguish himself as anything more than a highly competent soldier, successfully climbing to the rank of Blaze and becoming one of Neo Arcadia's more counted-on members. He was propelled even further during the Alexia Ashford incident in Willamette, Colorado, where he also learned a lot about himself - not to mention encountered Madeline Stafford for the first time, whom he felt an undeniable attraction for (after learning she was not in fact a robot). Further, this event turned Josef quite solidly against Umbrella.
During the fall of Neo Arcadia, Josef was out in Russia, sent for a secret mission - he would receive the orders when he arrived. When he didn't get them after two weeks time, he returned to find the organization in complete shambles. The foundation of Josef's world destroyed again, he immediately left again for Russia, this time wracked with grief and doubt, planning to drink as much alcohol as he could.
For several months Josef drifted around the world, making enough money to maintain his arm and keep the staggering needs of his body met, sunk into a deep depression. He was totally off the radar of the Robot Wars at this point, not ignorant of all the various events but simply unable to care. This changed when Mavericks assaulted the Ulfat Factory of Giga City while he was working there. The barriers Josef had thrown up around his soul shattered, and he once again took up the CRUSH arm, fighting with Overclock in a stalemate until the Maverick cyborg was called away. Josef resumed drifting around for work, but now with further purpose in his life - he can do something to change things, and he will.
On August 1, 2220, Josef Holznecht assisted Andrew (with further assistance from the Monolith) in extracting Pureri from STARS custody, executing a plan built by Daryn. The two have since been in scant contact, though he has since fiercely defended her right to live her own life.
Monkeys
Josef Holznecht, in his adventures, has acquired for better or worse a pair of simian assistants.
The first, a howler monkey given to fits of rage whenever someone tries to name him, or for many other reasons, accidentally became a companion of Josef's during an attack on a Repliforce jungle outpost while he was a member of Neo Arcadia. The monkey shadowed him throughout the fight, for unknown reasons, and leapt on board his transport as Neo Arcadia pulled back. Josef realized he had a new friend when he awoke the next day to find the howler sitting on his face, roaring.
Initially, the howler was somewhat small for an ordinary member of its species, but the old adage of monkey see, monkey do eventually applied, and he learned to mimic Josef's bodybuilding workout routines (on a smaller scale). Though still only physically average compared to a standard combat Reploid, the howler has developed significant musculature in his own right, which allows him to at least survive a fight with his partner in crime...
Schwarzenegger is a liberated Nazi cyborg gorilla, gifted to Josef by Cinnamon. While his enhancements make him extremely powerful, his calm nature is a sharp contrast to the furious antics of the howler.
