Irregulars

Jump to: navigation, search

The Irregular movement has supplanted the Maverick movement formerly led by Sigma, and are now led by Epsilon. The Irregulars are a group that accepts both robots and full conversion cyborgs dedicated to the improvement of the Reploid people.

The Irregulars are considered terrorists by most authorities; though strive to behave as freedom fighters that focus their attacks on organizations they feel are most responsible for the oppression of robots. By nature, the Irregulars are antagonistic to all existing social order, and go to frightening lengths in the name of their philosophy.

Characters

The Irregular movement accepts characters from all walks of life, from the simplest janitor to the most powerful warrior. All of these soldiers are united, not by a virus, but by an idea: the greater destiny of the Reploid people. All Irregulars serve in the military in some form or another, even if they serve a non-combat role. The survival of the Reploid people requires every member to stand to defend what they love, even at the cost of their own lives.

Irregulars have no compulsion to stay by virus or brainwashing: they serve because they believe in the ideals and goals of Epsilon. They believe themselves to be freedom fighters rather than terrorists, and do not consider themselves evil. In the eyes of the rest of the world, the Irregulars are no different than the Mavericks that came before them, and are subject to persecution in civil society.

The Irregulars are a great place to be a principled villain. While they may not think themselves evil, they seek to destroy the institutions of the world and replace them with ones of their own liking, and to convert humans into full-conversion cyborgs who they believe will be able to think and feel more like they do.

Both OCs and FCs are open and encouraged. Full-conversion cyborgs are welcome, as are either humaform or aniform Reploids.

Goals

There are seven goals of the Irregular movement:

  • A free and independent Reploid state
  • The abolition of Reploid production controlled by humans
  • An end to Reploid conscription and exploitation
  • Complete Reploid equality in human society
  • The capture and trial of persons who have committed crimes against the

Reploid people

  • Reparations paid to the Reploid people for their past suffering
  • The integration of cyborgs into a superior Reploid society

Philosophy

The Irregulars prepare for war so to be able to be strong enough to fight for what they believe in. They are dedicated to the improvement of the lot of the Reploid people, focusing both on achieving immediate military objectives as well as bolstering the cultural and social life of the Reploid. The Irregular interest in the arts is due to a desire to create an independent Reploid culture that does not merely appropriate items from human cultures, but speaks to a unique Reploid experience.

Irregulars follow the idea of multi-modal warfare. Irregulars will fight for freedom on the battlefield, but will also aggressively push their ideas in the public square so to draw in more recruits from Reploids and humans. They use the shield of free speech to be able to preach their philosophy worldwide, and have a strong focus on intelligence work so to be able to predict the movements of both allies and foes.

Irregulars avoid targeting civilians or causing excessive collateral damage. They focus their attention on fighting soldiers, who will kill them if they are not stopped, and the tools of oppression; human industrialists, megacorporations, world governments and other terrorist groups such as the Robot Masters. Epsilon prides himself on operating a professional, efficient military force that achieves its goals with the minimum amount of force necessary.

The Irregulars are a leaner, more subversive group than the Coalition that came before them, and are likely much more dangerous. The Irregulars have learned from, and will not repeat, the mistakes of the Mavericks.

History

In 2203, Dr. Sigmund Doppler invented the Reploid, an easily-built, adaptive and intelligent robot mind that could be used to build an army to fight the Robot Masters. Within a year's time, Reploids were the most common type of robotic life on Earth.

In their original role as soldiers, they formed the robotic army, Repliforce, and to lead them Dr. Doppler built his two finest creations: General and Sigma. Epsilon was also constructed alongside his brother Sigma, but was for many years only an obscure footnote in the history of warfare because of his specialty in asymmetrical warfare and infowar operations.

As the war dragged on, resentment grew among the Reploids about their role as cannon fodder for human wars. In the end, the kidnapping of Iris on the eve of victory was the final straw, and Sigma's Maverick Squadron formed the initial members of what would become the Coalition: Boomer Kuwanger, Flame Mammoth, Launch Octopus, Flame Stag, Morph Moth, Crush Crawfish, Neon Tiger, and Armored Armadillo.

As time went on, civilian Reploids joined disgruntled Repliforcers in the Coalition. The first five were Serges, a librarian, Violen, a composer, Agile, a mercenary, Cyber Peacock, a butler, and Magna Centipede, a factory worker. In time, Dr. Doppler created warriors specifically to serve the Coalition, including Double, an infiltration unit, and Bit & Byte, who could merge and form the powerful Godmachine Binary.

On August 22, 2206, the first evidence of the Maverick Virus was discovered, sweeping the world in the fear that the Mavericks could infect anyone. In fact this was very far from the truth. The Maverick Virus was a programming backdoor left in the Reploid AI by Dr. Doppler that would allow him to convert willing Reploids into Mavericks, heightening their paranoia and hatred for humanity. Nevertheless, the Mavericks used the specter of the virus to instill fear in humans all over the world.

In 2215, the Mavericks changed from terrorist organization to military state when their forces conquered Paris and Berlin, sweeping across much of Europe in the next few months. They spent years transforming the subcontinent into a robot-only land, humans exterminated or driven out by the Maverick hordes.

This state persisted until 2217 when, using Berkana's research into the DNA soul, Dr. Light and Gate discovered the true nature of the Maverick Virus, 'curing' it. Then, in an all but suicidal assault, Blues of the Maverick Hunters unleashed his full fury on Sigma, destroying him.

Doppler recovered and restored Sigma's badly damaged neural net, but in doing so accidentally created a new virus, a true infectious plague that became known as the Sigma Virus. Now able to actually infect innocent Reploids, the Coalition gained the power they had always claimed to have.

Humanity struck back. In 2218, the United Nations sent a battalion of humans in power armor to strike at the Mavericks. Storming Normandy Beach, both armies fought until the ground was dark with bodies. It was a disaster for both sides, and the crippled Maverick war machine retreated to Berlin, where Repliforce and Maverick Hunter forces were able to drive them into hiding in mid-June.

In August of 2219, it became clear to the Mavericks Lumine, Boomer Kuwanger, and Storm Eagle that the Sigma Virus was destroying Sigma. In the aftermath of an attempt by the Umbrella corporation to slaughter the Reploid population with a form of the Sigma Virus known as the Genocide Virus, a cure for the Sigma Virus was created by Doctors Cain and Light of the Maverick Hunters and Berkana and Prismatic Spider of Repliforce.

In light of what had happened and the growing insanity in Sigma, who was lashing out violently against his own people in an attempt to make them fight humans, Lumine staged a coup, driving Sigma from the Raptor II and wresting control of the Coalition from him. Over the next week, Sigma and the few Mavericks still loyal to him rampaged across Australia, slaughtering indiscriminately.

On August 25, Sigma assassinated the leaders of Australia, prompting swift action by the armies of the world. In a massive battle, the rookie Maverick Hunter Axl struck the final blow with a copy of Sigma's own blade, enhanced with the Sigma Virus cure, and slew the tyrant. Lumine descended upon the fatally wounded Sigma and took the remnants of the Sigma Virus into himself, solidifying his claim on the throne of the Coalition.

But Lumine sat uneasily on his throne. His initial burst of popularity faded as he found himself with an outmoded war machine. The old goals of the Coalition had mostly been met, and Lumine lacked the force of personality to hold the fractious movement together. To attempt to find a new direction for the Maverick movement, Lumine concentrated his attention on developing the Reploid refugee nation of Able City into a Maverick nation. Able City had been constructed to contain the Reploids who had been run out of Australia off of the coast of New Zealand. This, history would later say, would be the ultimate cause of its destruction.

On January 1st of 2221, Protoman struck out at the world, using Force Metal-based nuclear devices on three cities around the world; the Neo Arcadian fortress-city of Elysium, the Robot Master lunar city of Eclipse, and the Maverick nation of Able City. In seconds, Able City was reduced to plasma and ash, killing almost a million Reploids. There were no survivors -- save one.

Epsilon had been in Able City when it had been struck down. Epsilon, a veteran of the Robot Wars and the leader of the then-small Irregular movement, had been staying in the city to talk of peace and love to the Mavericks in the city. He had survived due to two factors; the sacrifice of his life partner Sclera and blind chance. Epsilon bore witness to the few helpless survivors of Able City being gunned down by ADF special forces, and was apparently slain by them. However, he survived, making his way back to Giga City over the course of a week.

Epsilon used the power of the growing Reploid network, the "Saraband", to address the Reploid people not long afterward. Epsilon repositioned the beliefs of the Irregular cause, adding to it the idea that humans could not truly love each other as Reploids did. The absence of this love, Epsilon claimed, was the cause of the suffering in the world. He encouraged humans to "upgrade" to full conversion cyborgs so that they could be made whole by the addition of cybernetic central nervous systems. While not a message of genocide, it was a frightening prospect to most of humanity.

Today, the Irregulars are a growing movement of militant cyborgs and robots, seeking to make a better day -- by any means necessary.
