Profile
Hiryu is perhaps one of the finest examples of the phrase, "Actions speak louder than words." Enigmatic in a way rarely seen in this day of modern records and information, his background is totally unknown except for bits and pieces only the Striders and a few others have been able to discover. Even less is known of his motives, with rare exception being his drive to end the Maverick and Robot Master oppression around the world. Keeping himself isolated and distant from others, he chooses his words carefully, rarely being straightforward or helpful, and almost never opening up to show any true emotions of any sort. His ominous-seeming persona only helps to reinforce the image of being the most skilled and capable Strider, and among one of the most dangerous humans alive. Wielding the Falchion Cipher -- the last of the triad of the original modern Ciphers along with Yin and Yang -- he is unmatched except by the limitations of human ability, which despite his constant efforts he can never overcome.
Background
Strider Hiryu's background is unknown, a conglomeration of conflicting reports and details. It is suspected that Hiryu or other interested parties intentionally altered records and provided warped witness reports. According to some versions of Hiryu's past, he is the final result of a centuries-long breeding program meant to produce the perfect human specimen; in others, he was found unintentionally by Striders on assignment somewhere in Asia.
What is known for certain is that a young man named Hiryu appears in pre-schism Strider training logs as a student of the now-deceased Yosho Roshi. Far exceeding the capabilities of his colleagues, Hiryu eventually disappears shortly before the Strider schism.
After the schism, few concrete reports of his existence appear, short of a blurry but discernible video of a daring duel with Hien on the back of a robotic dragon over Moscow several years later.
Trivia/Cool Facts
- No one knows for certain what ideals or motivations drive Strider Hiryu to continually involve himself in world affairs. A highly secret U.N. file on Hiryu indicates that, despite the subtlety of Hiryu's activities, his influence on world events is not insubstantial due to their extensive indirect consequences.
- Hiryu has no cybernetic enhancements, nor any sort of extra-human ability. He is, by all accounts, a completely unaltered human specimen.
- Hiryu is the youngest person to ever achieve the rank of Strider class SA, even using the most generous estimate of his age.
- The number of people that Hiryu has killed in the course of his duties is unknown, since the activities of Striders are seldom identified as such and when they are, confused between one Strider and another. However, it is estimated to be in the quadruple digits, a number primarily comprised of pirates, Yakuza, and Russian soldiers.
- Video from Hiryu's epic duel with Hien seems to show Hiryu demonstrating physical capabilities far beyond even that which is typically attributed to him.
- Hiryu recently took on a student, who has since gone missing in the wake of an attack on STARS HQ. The aim of the attack was the kidnapping of Pureri. All the Jade Man has been able to confirm, if only a little, is that Pureri is not in the hands of Euro-Arcadia. His quest for information as to his student's whereabouts continues.
