Gate and Berkana, two reploid scientists employed by the United Nations, were the foremost researchers of the Maverick Virus and developed the beginning theory of DNA souls. The two developed the designs for six reploids equipped with the Dream Protocol -- supposedly making them immune to the Virus. Repeated conflicts over the predicted effectiveness of this Dream Protocol led to a split between Berkana and Gate, Berkana working with her own research on DNA souls while Gate completed the Dream Team on his own.
This team was revealed to the public in July and were immediately hired to investigate the Stardroid ruins of Atlantis. They were accompanied by three others: Gate's assistant Isaac, Option Yammark, and Infinity Mijinion. During the investigation, Infinity -- actually a Maverick infiltrator -- convinced Ground Scarab and Metal Shark to betray the Dream Team and turn Maverick themselves. The Dream Protocol 1.0, actually little more than a series of complicated killswitches, turned out to be entirely ineffective against the Maverick Virus. After the betrayal the Dream Team was broken up -- Shield Shellfish and Rain Turtle entering Repliforce while Blizzard Wolf and Blaze Heatnix were adopted by the Hunters.

Berkana finalizes and publishes her DNA Soul research in May 2217, allowing investigation into the differences between Mavericks and normal reploids. Gate, using this research, cures an infected Alpha of the Maverick Virus and then develops the ultimate cure for the Maverick Virus. Unfortunately, the arrival of the Sigma Virus less than a few months later renders this cure useless.
Under the orders of James Houseman IV, Black SHIELD affiliate, Gate was ordered to create another group of reploids, loyal to the United Nations and immune to the new Sigma Virus, in order to infiltrate Maverick ranks. Gate cooperated, building Red Alert with a new version of the Dream Protocol -- this version truly rendering them immune to the Sigma Virus and also fooling scanners into detecting them as Mavericks. Red Alert debuted as a team of bounty hunters before pretending to go Maverick, unfortunately forced to participate in the notable Normandy slaughter in order to maintain the ruse. They were then abandoned behind enemy lines by Black SHIELD. Repliforce rescued Red Alert from the Mavericks and they chose to remain with the army as a special ops team.
Berkana, aware of Black SHIELD's influence, escapes the UN along with project Hi-Max -- a reploid caught in stasis with a newer, failed version of the Dream Protocol. Gate steals the project from her and brings the neural net to Prismatic Spider. Hi-Max is revived and enters Repliforce.

Along with Dr. Sarah Fairchild, Director of Interpol, Gate creates Bossa Nova, a humanoid reploid who becomes a Hunter. His lifespan was incredibly short -- killed after only a few months by Elpizo. Nix and Nymph were created shortly after Bossa's creation, an experiment in gestalt technology. Nonetheless, the death of Bossa Nova embittered Gate, and the problem only got worse when Interpol fired him for his increasingly reckless experimentation. He moved to Eurasia to work at a university there, only to be fired once again. From there he went to Alaska and formed a lab, beginning work on the Dream Protocol 3.0 as well as studying the work of force metal. It is unknown precisely what happened, but there was a massive explosion in the labs at this time -- four new reploids created, all instantaneously Maverick. Gate likely was infected with the Sigma Virus at this time, but due to his work with force metal, the radiation covered up his infection until he was fully infected.
Gate then moved one final time, to a secret lab in the Pacific Ocean. On August 31st, 2218, Project Seraph created Lumine, the cumulation of all Gate's work -- equipped with a force-metal based weapon emulation system, incredibly powerful... and Maverick. Gate then called his previous creations together and demanded that they join the Mavericks or he would kill them. He was thwarted in the attempt, but survived to join the Mavericks along with Lumine. Nix and Nymph went MIA after the defection of Gate, presumed dead.
