Profile
The world's most famous mercenary, Dynamo's name is known in back alleys the world over. Those he targets have learned to fear the dark armor and smug grin of the hybrid, as it's often the last thing they ever see. Smug and confident, Dynamo is never without a snide remark or pithy comment, enjoying the reaction his attitude creates in his friends and foes. Despite this, he commands the highest prices for his contracts, and has worked for most of the major power groups in the Robot Wars. Created as Duelist Cavalier, Dynamo was the prototype for a Black SHIELD production run of combat reploids. Originally working undercover as a UN operative, he later secured his own freedom and went independent as a mercenary and bounty hunter. Rather cynical and nihilistic in outlook, he nonetheless has a reputation of trustworthiness; if contracted, he will get the job done, and never sells out an employer to another bidder. Dynamo is a brilliant combatant with both his Dynamo Saber and Split Buster, but sometimes vanishes in the middle of a fight, easily bored and deeming his opponents unworthy of his efforts.
Background
Dynamo began life in 2212 as a project funded under the aegis of Black SHIELD known as Project Dynamic.
Project Dynamic was, and perhaps still is, a Black SHIELD project to create a capable multi-use combat robot along the lines of Bass or Zero. In effect, and copious notes from the design documents back this up, this is exactly what they were going for, and more.
Original specifications for Project Dynamic were unusual, to say the least. In the prototype, an overpowered energy pile was installed for operation of systems that were not, the only positive outcome of this being the ability to channel excess energy into wide-ranging electrical attacks. An ancient blink engine was installed, top of the line in 2200 but archaic by today's standards, the same kind used in Blues, but without the modifications that allow him to go anywhere. Extra space in the Buster arm was given to allow future addition weapons systems. The possibility that they intended Dynamo to have a Buster and an advanced blink system are unavoidable
The general theory behind the Project Dynamic was to create a powerful combat robot who could operate undercover and in the open, working alone or in support of other units. Initial tests with prototype UNX-001, codenamed Dynamo, supported this, the so-called mercenary playing a key role in the liberation of Eurasia from Robot Master forces. The project deemed a success, further alterations were made to adapt to Dynamo's unusual personality and production was begun on a full line of Dynamic reploids. UNX-002 and 003, Ohm and Capacitor, were quickly brought online, one being dispatched to serve as a covert guard for James Houseman, an influential supporter of Black SHIELD, the other serving Black SHIELD director Arkady Bogdanov.
Dynamo proved to be less-than-ideal after long service, eventually rebelling against Interpol and being granted his freedom by Adrian Vorlaikal, then-director of Interpol. Black SHIELD quietly mothballed the project while work was begun on second-generation models, leaving the rest of the Dynamic reploids unfinished. When the Black SHIELD base was recovered, these reploids were recovered by Dr. Light, who activated at least one of them, who took the name Marino. Information and further details about any additional surviving Dynamic reploids is unknown.
Ohm and Capacitor lacked Dynamo's independence, and served faithfully until their deaths in 2217. Dynamo continues to operate independently, as does Marino. The mysterious reploids Spider and Wasp appear to also be Project Dynamic reploids, but of a later construction line.
Despite the revelation of The Professor as one of the minds behind Project Dynamic, Dynamo wants nothing to do with the madman or his organization. He has made clear, in no uncertain terms, that he has no intention of joining his siblings Prometheus, Pandora, and Spider and the organization.
IC History
Dynamo served as an undercover operative for the United Nations for several years after his creation, assisting in the liberation of Eurasia from the Robot Masters in 2214. By 2216, he has grown tired of what he considered to be a life in captivity, arranging through a friend, Adrian Vorlaikal, to gain his independence from the group. A further factor was a relationship with the reploid Alpha, a bounty that Dynamo refused to hunt.
After gaining his freedom, Dynamo purchased Thunderclap, a bar on Eurasia, and began to work freelance while nurturing his relationship with Alpha. Political tensions with the goverment of Eurasia caused him to move his entire bar to Scrap Iron City, the terminus of the Space Elevator, where it continues to operate to this day.
Dynamo has had a love/hate relationship with the Maverick Hunters ever since he was created, often picking fights with figures such as Zero, but maintaining a relationship with the Hunter Alpha and members of her extended family. He currently has no real sympathy for them given Dr. Light's role in hiding the existence of Marino from him.
Dynamo was not present at the final battle, and only learned afterwards that Alpha died during the fighting. Distraught, he wandered for a week, refusing repairs and accepting work from any who asked. This came to a head at Alpha's funeral with the Juggalos. Dynamo confronted Durandal, and the Maverick Hunter slapped sense into the mercenary... literally.
Since the funeral, Dynamo has vowed to try and honor Alpha's memory and walk the straight and narrow. If he can manage it remains to be seen, the basic nature of the sarcastic mercenary against him.
Trivia/Facts
Before his relationship with Alpha, Dynamo entertained himself by kissing others and watching their reaction. Dust Man was a victim multiple times.
Dynamo stole a sword purported to be Excalibur from a group calling itself Camelot Neo.
Dynamo has a constant companion, a simple android girl named Blade Marionette. Quiet and withdrawn, Blade Marionette was a slave to a pimp and drug dealer working for one of the Chinese Warlords. Dynamo felt sorry for her and took her in, giving her fine dresses and promising her a life free from slavery.
Dynamo defeated General to win the gold medal in the Battle & Chase single combat in 2217.
Dynamo was briefly aligned with the Irregulars, and all members of the Irregulars get discounts on drinks at Thunderclap. Epsilon gets free drinks in memory of Vowel and Consonant.
