Profile
Sigmund J. Doppler, progenitor of the Reploid race and mentor of the Maverick movement, was once a respected scientist hailed as the foremost cyberneticist of his generation. Using Thomas Light's published work and his own formidable programming knowledge, Doppler wrote the Reploid source code and enabled the creation of an entire race of robots. When it became obvious that reploids were being exploited as a slave race he resigned his position and joined his renegade son Sigma to found the Mavericks. Eventually, Sigma's growing insanity destabilised the entire Maverick movement and Doppler was betrayed, resulting in his capture by the UN. After escaping, he went to ground with the Irregulars and now serves as their chief technician. Suffering severe neural trauma from repeated Sigma Virus infections and strokes, it is surprising that Doppler still possesses his faculties, although his memory has suffered and his moods can be unpredictable. Wary of further treachery Doppler puts his trust in a select few people, while he tries to adjust to a new life.
Background
Dr. Sigmund Joseph Doppler's childhood was never easy. He was early on diagnosed with a spinar muscular athrophy which would have been fatal but for the invention of applied cybernetics. His parents were a wealthy pair of German industrialists. Most of his childhood was spent in and out of hospital after hospital as more and more of his body was gradually being changed into machine. His parents while rich and willing to pay the bill were not the most loving creatures in the world and rarely if ever visited, preffering a lifestyle of rich luxury cruises which they never seemed able to take young Doppler along on. Doppler resented that and there was never any love lost between him and his parents later on. Doppler always suspected his parents ignored him because they were hoping for a healthy child. Wether this is right or not remains unknown.
While in his frequent hospital stays there was little for young Sigmund to do except focus on reading and studying. Another boy might have chosen to read some sort of fiction or magazine but at the young age of ten Doppler was already starting to read books about physics and math that would make some twice his age balk. His tutors remarked that he was a exceptionally bright boy but none of them realized just how bright until one day he managed to steal enough suplies from the hospital to make a fully functioning robotic dog from scratch. He was fourteen at the time. This caused his tutors to advance his learning scheduel which suited young Doppler just fine.
In following years Doppler got his first, second and third degree in applied physics, Medicine, cybernetics respectably. he never seemed happier then when he had a book in his hand and learning something. He quickly started to make his name known within academic circles penning several documents about the advantage of cybernetics for the common man. He was relatively unknown outside his the academics.
For several more years Doppler learned from some of the best universities on earth collecting doctorates in varius subjects, mostly related to physics, programming and cybernetic engineering, it seemed almost like he was doing so for the sheer plesure of learning more then anything else. At the age of thirty Doppler was alredy among the most respected academics in the world taking up a teaching position in the respected university of Berlin and discovering several new possiblities with cybernetics. Often being a spokesman in the favor of cybernetics against those who despised it, religious extremists and such.
At the age of forty doppler unexpectedly took a job at the United Nations, one which he had been offered and declined before. he rose quickly up their ranks and became their head scientist. Why exactly he took the job at that time is unknown but it is theorized that he had already begun his research into creating the reploid neural net before he took the job and did so only to gain the resources necessary to finish his researches as well as his other projects. It seemed to have been more of a hobby of his then anything else.
Then came the dawn of the Android and suddenly artificial life forms were a reality. This spurred Doctor Doppler into action. The old(he was 59 at the time of the expo) doctor started to really research the Neural net getting more and more into it. The U.N didn't mind his apparent eccentric research as he still did his job perfectly, however every waking hour was spent in modification and testing what would become the reploid neural net.
Then came the fateful night when Wily grabbed the alphas and started the robot war that lasts to this day and Doppler saw what he must do. Determined to help, he doubled his research leading to his failing health and status. In the end Doppler managed to create the very first reploid. Filled with pride and excitement Doppler presented it to the U.N who were glad to get some backup in their loosing battle against Wily's android legions.
Over the next few years Dr. Doppler created several unique and very powerful children for the U.N. General, Sigma, Epsilon and others were all made. Even at that time Dr. Doppler considered himself a father of reploids and considered all reploids his children. It was also at that time that he became increasingly distressed about the way his children were treated. Seeing legion after legion of his children die for people that considered them nothing more then machines was painful enough but to see other reploids created to do work that was to menial for humans and never being looked at except as machines.
At first Dr. Doppler tried to talk to his superiors, trying in vain to get them to accept that his children were sentient and deserved recognition. He was told that at that time they could not afford to, the reploids were critical to winning the war after all. He still protested and was told diplomatically to shut up and stay silent. Then he went to the press, trying to convince them to let his children go free. That did exactly nothing. The press did print his interview but he was quickly mocked as 'the mad scientist' and generally disgraced by the U.N's other scientists. The U.N also took his research, claiming that since he spent mainly U.N resources in the process of the research it was rightfully theirs., and forced him to retire.
The U.N probably thought at that time that Doppler was powerless and would just fade away. Not understanding that Doppler still had one resource left. One group who listened and knew what he had tried to do. One group that stood with him and never belied his opponents. One group that would wrote him so many letters to support him that they had to get a truck to carry it to them.
His children, the reploids.
They were not convinced by the U.N. They still regarded Doppler as a father figure precisely because he did what he did. They understood what he was trying to do. But while they understood and disliked the U.N's plan, they did not rebel. They thought that they could get what they wanted by winning the war and then people could not help but listen to them. Doppler disagreed however, believing that humanity would not budge from its comfortable dependency upon reploids until they were forced to see them as he did, as living thinking creatures with goals and believes of their own.
It is unknown why or when exactly Dr. Doppler first started to whisper words of rebellion into the ears of his children, some have speculated that he already begun to do so before he went to the press. As to the why? His supporters say that he did it because it was necessary and that not doing it would have been disastrous for the reploids as a race. His opponents claim that he was bitter and vengeful about the U.N discrediting him and claiming his research for their own. The only one who really knows is Doppler himself.
The rest of the story is known. Doppler went to Sigma and whispered words of mutiny and hate in his ears making him grow increasingly displeased with his position and that of his brothers. When Sigma was not permitted to go and try to save Iris. The Reploid grew bitterly angry and finally chose to let Doppler infect him with the maverick virus. Once one piece fell others followed, within the month repliforce personnel and normal reploids had followed the charismatic Sigma into rebellion and the maverick movement was created. After that Dr. Doppler's own bitterness and hatred started to consume him and his path led him in a downward spiral of madness that only cleared slightly after Sigma was permanently killed.
Personalilty
Dr. Doppler does not seem to be all that unpleasant, at least not at first. He's polite, calm and even kind(to his children at least) and is a excellent conversationalist if you avoid a few tense subjects. But that's just a facade, like the one he does sometimes of a dottering harmless old man. Dr. Doppler is far from harmless.
The center of Dr. Doppler's personality is the love he holds for his children the reploids. This intense but cold love is what made dr. doppler into what he is. he would sacrifice everything for his children and, in a way, he already has. He's sacrificed his career, reputation, sanity and the remnants of his humanity all to make the world into a place where /he/ can foresee his children living free and able to seize their own destiny. Dr. Doppler would do everything to make that happen, up to and including killing every human being on the planet if he thought it necessary. He would mourn their passing perhaps but he wouldn't hesitate.
After Sigma's fall in Sydney Dr. Doppler went through a mental and physical breakdown which he has only recently recover from. He started to doubt his methoods and second guess he had done in the past, this caused him to became slightly more moderate in his ways(although he's still extremely radical by most standards and dangerously insane) and he's been trying to take a backseat in the running of the Irregulars only taking a promotion if he feels he is needed at least at the moment.
Dr. Doppler truly does love his children and often does go out of his way to help them in any way he can, even going so far to help his enemies with their medical problems, he cherishes every reploid life out there. As for humanity, Dr. Doppler believes that humanity betrayed both him and his children and is disgusted by their current complacency. He doesn't necessarily want them all dead but he wants his children to be respected and free from the humans and the system that oppresses them, weather they like it or not.
Dr. Doppler also considers himself as a scientist and feels a slight kinship with any other highly intelligent scientist, he may dislike them on a personal level but he does respect their work. he does however dislike intensely when scientists abuse their work and use it to chain or otherwise hurt artificial intelligence, including their 'children' and more then one promising scientist has met his end after a quiet conversation with Dr. Doppler followed by a visit from Byte or one of his other 'more energetic children'.

Trivia/Cool Facts
- Dr. Doppler is a sucker for artificial intelligences who have either lost or been abused by his parents and will go to some length to see that they are well cared for.
- Dr. Doppler generally dislikes doing things personally, he prefers to let his children settle things for him or fight in a Ra. Despite this he is actually quite strong due mostly to the cybernetics he's had installed.
- Dr. Doppler is skilled in a variety of sciences but his mastery of the neural net(he wrote it) and reploid construction(he made the first reploids and he's made a immense amount of extremely powerful people:general, sigma, epsilon, bit byte etc) as well as gestalt technology(God machine binary) is where he generally excels and is probably the most skilled in these areas on Earth.
