More specifically, DNA Soul refers to the personality and identifiable traits that make up a reploid, much like the supposed "soul" of a human being. This is linked obviously to different traits that a reploid takes on during its persona development upon initial activation, and as such a set of coded data, linked around the base CPU of a reploid, eventually develops, changing constantly due to circumstances and events both from the reploid's decisions and experiences. Because the data can be easily changed and is volatile, the Maverick Virus focused on distorting the data to different codes outlined within the virus; Berkana's publishing of her research on this in May of 2217 helped put the initial Maverick Virus to an end, as further development by Gate after learning of this information led to a cure on the 14th of that month.
