Cyberspace
Cyberspace is the virtual world that exists in the computer networks of the IC world. Although the Megaman Battle Network series is a heavy influence, M3's cyberspace grid is a combination of many different types of science fiction's visions of cyberspace. All of them flow together seamlessly, so that NetNavis and fantasy elves can walk along the virtual streets next to neon-lined humanoids.
The Grid
M3's cyberspace grid can be accessed from any room on the MUSH, simply by using the command +login. Cyberspace is a small sub-grid, where the rooms reflect the different sectors of the internet, each area roughly corresponding to a major continental hub. Many sections of the grid represent factional bases, each designed in their own unique way. For example, the Irregular hub is a large forum, represented as a bar and lounge, whereas the Repliforce hub is mobile and takes the form of a snowy military base.
Cyberspace areas can be made as easily as one can make a webpage today, and many cyberspace areas are thriving cities made of a patchwork of different buildings and themed areas. Many gaming sites exist, like giant theme parks or leisure centres, that people can visit to entertain themselves.
Accessing Cyberspace
Cyberspace can be accessed in many different ways, from simply connecting to it via a normal computer all the way up to using a Concerto system. The Concerto is a machine invented by Dr. Light, and takes the form of a small crystal that can be stuck to a user's head to allow them to convert thought directly into computer processes, allowing them to interface with a computer with their mind. These are available to the public but rather expensive. There also exist virtual reality headsets, holographic systems, and direct neural connections for androids and reploids.
Many direct methods of connecting to the internet are not without their risks, though. In only the recent past, it was very easy to contract many forms of virus through direct neural connections, including the Sigma Virus. Many viruses take the form of autonomous monsters that roam many areas of the internet, and Virus Busting is a legitimate profession.
Cyberspace Presences
The Internet is mostly a place for fun, but for a lot of computer hackers, it is their most important battleground. The war of data is a war just as valid as the Robot War. It's said that secret societies exist on the internet, and the enigmatic Mister Famous is the internet's greatest myth. Many internet groups such as the Greeks exist on the internet, and the company SciTech is one of the biggest presences in the internet, dealing with data storage and security.
Virtual Combat
Virtual Combat is one of the most significant aspects of the internet. Although it was originally another aspect of war, fights became so flashy and public that NetBattling became a public sport, and the concept proliferated. Many people constructed basic Virtual Armours, powered by the battle routines present in what came to be known as Battle Chips. Companies like Nuevo One clued into the popularity, and in 2220, the virtual combat event that had, for two years been a part of Battle and Chase officially became the N1 Grand Prix.
Virtual Combat is performed using V-Armours. These are the only things that can battle in cyberspace, and typically only skilled computer hackers can construct them. Other Navis can be chewed up like cannonfodder by a typical V-Armor. Because there are no mechanical limits, Virtual Armours can attack in any way concievable, often creating fantastic and flashy displays. The arms race has produced many things that aid in virtual combat, from the aforementioned battlechips to virtual ride armours. Some say that there even exists a virtual equivalent of the Buster.
