North America

North America contains the nations of Canada, the United States of America, the Republic of Texas and Mexico. North America has weathered the Robot Wars better than most other parts of the world, though increasing pressure has been placed on it due to the various terrorist organizations running out of things to explode or burn elsewhere.

The dominant nation in North America at present is the United States of America. While not the military superpower they were before World War III, the American government is re-militarizing in an effort to become less reliant on Repliforce. Texas splintered off from the USA during the collapse of the UN and is also militarizing, though has formed strong military ties with the US. Canada remains an ally of the US though is wary of Texas.

All three nations have an interest in reconstructing the anarchic state of San Angeles. Efforts to keep San Angeles from falling into the hands of Pantheon insurgents are ongoing, though the warfare between rival paramilitary factions in San Angeles itself slows any progress that might be made. With the death of former Mayor-Dictator Edgar Friendly during the Force Metal bombing, decades-old grudges and tensions have boiled over to fuel the unrest.

Mexico has recently returned to democratic rule after the fall of the Pantheon in the area, though the nation appears to be increasingly unstable due to institutionalized corruption.

Significant Events

  • The megacity of Vancouver was destroyed by the fall of the Stardroid ship Starhaven onto it. The crash left behind a deep crater that filled in with ocean water. Force Metal, a powerful radioactive element that is still poorly understood by science, was found to have been left behind by the crash. The floating city of Giga City was built over the Vancouver ruins and is driven by Force Metal mining.
  • The megacity of San Angeles was destroyed by a Force Metal-based nuclear weapon in 2219. The weapon, planted by the Robot Master Gemini Man, focused on the campus of the University of California San Angeles (UCSA), which had been a significant robotics school. An invasion by Neo Arcadia soon followed, but the Pantheon forces were eventually repelled by Repliforce.
  • The city of El Paso, Texas was destroyed by a mysterious event in 2215, apparently by Stardroid influence. The city has been sealed off by Texan forces since early 2219.
  • The city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was severely damaged by an asteroid impact in 2216 that, combined with the impact of "Asteroid B" in Guyana in late 2215 caused dangerous changes in Earth's weather. World scientists were able to stabilize the condition of the planet, staving off global catastrophe.

South America

South America contains the nations of Central America as well as continental South America. These nations have joined together in a regional confederacy known as the Transamerican Freedom Alliance (TFA). The TFA generally does not impinge much on the sovereignty of its members, but attempts to align the nations together economically to give them a group negotiation advantage in the world marketplace.

The largest TFA nation is Brazil. Brazil's biotech sector and pro-business government, combined with a large number of European expatriates who have moved their businesses there in the aftermath of the Maverick occupation of Europe, has made it the dominant economic player in the TFA. Brazil also is the new seat of power of the Catholic Church, as the Vatican had to relocate to Rio de Janeiro during the Maverick occupation. Many academics believe that Brazil will become the center of human civilization in the coming centuries due to this mass exodus of human culture there, but the future remains unclear.

Significant Events

  • "Asteroid B", a small space station operated by the Robot Master Bass, struck Guyana in late 2215. The impact targeted a rock concert, and successfully destroyed the evil Stardroid Scorpio, servant of Nigh. The impact damaged the world's climate for a brief time.

Europe

Europe has suffered the most during the Robot Wars. Repeated occupations, culminating in the years-long Maverick occupation, have decimated the cradle of Western civilization and left it a ruined, post-apocalyptic wasteland. The world has struggled to try to restore it to what it once was, but with the loss of over half its population and the scattering of the rest across the world, many of the great cities of Europe may be lost forever. Only the United Kingdom stands relatively unscathed, never bending knee to the terrorist invaders.

Humanity now works to rebuild what was lost, and perhaps to create something new in its place. Europe's new inhabitants are primarily northern Africans, seeking a new life in the rich farmlands of the northern country. Africans and returning Europeans struggle to find their place in a world that is radically different than anyone could have imagined. Low-level warfare has returned to the continent, this time between human groups over land and the remaining wealth of the fallen nations. Adding to the volatile mix are Juggalos, who have sought to create new colonies for themselves in the ruins of the great cities, and also wish to farm the lands of Europe for themselves.

Significant Events

  • The Flemish States were destroyed by the Mavericks' Enigma Cannon in early 2215 as the opening salvo of their overall invasion campaign of the continent.

Africa

Africa has become one of the most economically powerful continents in the world today. Controversially, many attribute Africa's new strength to the technological and political reforms instituted during Wily's occupation of the continent. However, the African people have done the difficult work of creating democracy from the despotism that was Wily's dark legacy, and have used the infrastructure they created under his regime to their own ends.

Africa is unified through the African Continental Government (ACG), which behaves much like the United Nations once did for the rest of the world. They generally are standoffish toward the nations of the old First World, though they engage them economically by selling energy and high-tech goods to anyone who can afford them. While this young continental confederacy is not without its problems -- lingering civil unrest and quarreling between nations over the appropriate share of their new wealth -- Africa in the 23rd century is almost entirely different than the Africa of previous generations.

Africa has benefited from the European diaspora, taking on many technical workers and skilled craftspeople to fill out its growing high-tech sectors. Africa's main rival in the tech industry is Brazil, which also received numerous European refugees and has a dominant market share in biotech.

Asia

Asia has suffered greatly since World War III, and its fortunes do not seem ready to improve any time soon. Russia is a barely functional democracy, always on the knife's edge of corruption and terrorist attack, while China only seems to become worse and worse off as time passes. Korea, the center of the new Asia-centric United Nations, is a shining beacon of hope to much of continental Asia, but ethnic tensions between different nations often stymies real progress. New economic initiatives promise to bring more investment into the region, provided that corruption and graft do not destroy them before they can really begin.

To the south, India and Southeast Asia have kept up in the global economy due to their focus on education and strong alliances with nations around the world. Papua New Guinea has seen great recovery in recent years due to Repliforce-driven environmental cleanup. However, nearby Sri Lanka is still a pit of scum and villainy, run almost openly by pirates and smugglers.

To the east, Japan continues to recover from decades of institutionalized Yakuza corruption. The humiliating reign of "Emperor Wily" continues to rankle the Japanese people, and many officials in the Japanese government have vowed to avenge their dishonored nation by any means available to them. However, it was the wake-up call the Japanese people needed to try to cast off the shackles of organized crime. The struggle has been hard, and their efforts are far from over.

Australia

Australia's population doubled during the Maverick occupation of Europe. As it became apparent just how devastated the continent was, its population only grew. By the time the United Nations collapsed, the damage had been done: millions of poor or working class Europeans had created enormous refugee camps throughout Australia, and had nowhere to be deported back to. Rather than condemn millions of their fellow humans to death, Australia attempted to integrate them into their society.

The resulting paradigm shift in Australian politics was dramatic -- a hard turn toward radical socialism that alarmed many natives, and an increasingly militant anti-robot tone to national politics used to garner immigrant votes. Terrorist attacks by Robot Masters and Mavericks eventually led the nation to heavily restrict, then outright ban Reploids from the nation for a time.

Sigma's final rampage through Australia resulted in the destruction of the Australian government and forced new elections. During a period of military rule of the nation per its Emergency Powers Act, the anti-Reploid laws were struck as being unjust. The new government that was elected in the aftermath of this period appears to be unwilling to restore these popular laws, though remains cool to Reploid civil rights.
