Profile
As the first robot created by Dr. Light, Dr. Wily, and Dr. Cain, Blues has had as colorful a history as his three creators. A Robot Master originally, Blues broke through most of the WilyCode and went into seclusion for years. No one knows exactly where he was during this time, but one thing is evident, wherever he came back stronger and with an ability to teleport anywhere in the world. Enigmatic, aloof, and cynical, Blues keeps up the hard exterior to the outside world but has opened up more to his fellow Hunters after the removal of the final piece of the WilyCode. While Protoman accepts allies calling him by his real name now, he still sometimes reacts violently when an enemy does so. His main weapon is the Proto Buster, which can take on the properties of other robots' weaponary like Rock's Mega Buster can. The nerpium shield that Protoman uses as his primary mode of defense is capable of deflecting most attacks thrown against it. Protoman remains somewhat enigmatic to even his peers, as he often has his own agenda and reasoning for doing something; and can often disappear or appear without prior notice.
Background
Blues was the original creation of Dr. Light. His primary programming style and construction methods mainly developed by Dr. Light. Blues was first introduced to the world at the first ever Global Science and Technology Expo. After that he was returned to stasis for Light to further work on him. Dr. Light still felt that his creation was not perfect and wanted to improve.
The next time Blues came online he was in Dr. Wily's new lab. Wily had kidnapped him from his home. Wily had already reprogrammed the other robots into his hapless slaves but he wanted more out of Blues. When Wily activated Blues he used lies and trickery to convince Blues that Dr. Light thought of him as a failure and didn't want him any more. This hit Blues hard, just as Wily expected it would. Wily used this period of emotional weakness and readjustment to mold Blues into the commander for his force of robots. Blues was equipped with a powerful plasma cannon and a set of armor that would hide his face.
Blues, now calling himself Protoman lead Wily's force of stolen robots well. He trained them from being standard issue productive creations into being diabolical killing machines. It was what Wily requested so it is what Protoman did. Protoman saw Wily now as the only person that really cared for him so he did what he asked without question.
When the robots invaded the city Protoman observed there progress, becoming involved very little. Wily wanted to see the 6 'Robot Masters' as he was calling them in action without any assistance. Protoman watched as the Robots very quickly gained control of the city. He was a bit taken back by all the damage that was being done, but he understood that it was necessary to complete Wily's dream. After the city was under their control Blues expected the violence to stop, but it didn't. One incident in particular stands out.
Blues stood outside a building as Fire Man submitted it to his powerful Fire Storm. Most of the humans that lived inside had managed to escape but Blues' sensitive sensors detected a young child far up in the building all alone. If he didn't interfere she would surely die. Blues refused to stand by and let this happen. He rushed into the building, not bothering to order Fire Man to stop his assault. He managed to reach the Girl and leap out of a window to another building and safety. The little girl wore a bright orange scarf which she presented to Blues. Blues took the scarf and returned the girl to the street level where he found her mother. The child's mother snatched back the child and shouting obscenities ran away from Protoman as quickly as she could. Protoman tied the scarf around his neck as the mother dragged her still smiling and waving child away. This scarf would become Protoman's symbol the thing that showed he no longer agreed with Dr. Wily's methods.
Blues returned to Wily's lab and confronted his surrogate father and explained his concerns. Dr. Wily nodded slowly and said that he would do his best to ensure that the two of them could see eye to eye. Wily of course meant that he would ensure that Blues would witness more acts of wanton destruction and gratuitous violence in hopes that he would eventually become numb to them.
This actually almost worked. Over time Protoman started to become the ruthless killer that Wily wanted him to be. Then one day he had a group of human civilians prisoner. Wily ordered Protoman to dispose of them, His cannon begin to charge as he pointed it out at the group. Suddenly a gust of wind blew the scarf that was around his neck in front of his face. In the blink of an eye Blues realized that what he was doing was wrong and realized that Wily was wrong and that if he let Wily live that Wily would only try and sway Blues again, Blues couldn't allow this. He turned his cannon towards Wily and tried to fire. This is when Blues learned that Wily did take some precautions. There were programing locks in Blues' systems preventing him from doing any harm to Dr. Wily.
Wily called in his other robots and they badly brutalized and nearly scrapped Blues. Wily ordered Blues to be imprisoned and tortured. For months Blues endured the torture. Wily did not wish to deactivate Blues because his power was unmatched in the other robots. Despite the joy he was getting from it he began to realized the torture was getting him no where. He moved to reprogram Blues to be a more loyal solder. This really was Wily's last choice, as he truly wanted Blues to have his own will, but it was the last remaining option and other then the fact that it was mildly inconvenient Wily didn't seem to mind much at doing it.
Blues looked onward as Wily approached him, system tools and programming interface cards in hand. Blues was totally helpless, all his weapons off-line (not that they would be any good against Wily), he had not undergone a rest cycle in a full week at best. Blues could do nothing but stare wide eyed at the approaching Scientist, Blues then wished simply to be as far away from where was, by a sheer force of will he spontaneously developed his mysterious ability to teleport.
He appeared nearly half way around the world in the mountains of the United States. It was here that Blues slowly healed and built himself back up to full power. he learned to control his teleportation to perfect precession although he doesn't completely understand -how- it works he understands that it works an that is all he cares about.
As he was healing Blues learned a deep respect for the Mother Earth. He realized it was the constant and that all other things are merely temporary variables. Blues began to practice ritual meditation in attempts to become closer to the spirit of the Earth. He also carved himself an elaborate flute and begain to teach himself how to play it much like he had so long ago with Dr. Light. It is one of the things that Dr. Wily forebode Blues to practice while he was under his care.
After about 4 years of solitude Blues made his return to Japan to watch events unfold. He in particular was watching over his 'brother'. He assisted when he could, always staying out of sight. Finally as he watched the battle between Rock and Bass he relized that he could remain unknown no longer. He interfered and saved Rock's life, returned him to Dr. Light's lab for repairs. When he reached Dr. Light's lab he saw his 'father' for the first time in over a decade. He coldly regarded him and dumped Rock onto a table. He started to walk out and was asked to stay. Blues felt it was the least he could do until Rock was functional again.
Blues has developed a distrust for everyone, he hides it beneath a veil of sarcasm most of the time, but if provoked he will show his true colors. But the distrust is really just another 'shell' to his real self. Blues learned to truly appreciate the earth during the long time it took to regain his strength. he realized that if the war continues that soon there will be nothing left to fight over.
With Rock rebuilt he still remains as he sees the Hunters as his only chance to gain revenge on Dr. Wily. He also sees them as the only faction that actually seems to 'care' the Reploids may fight but they do it as a job, they care little for the earth around them, the Hunters may genuinely care. Protoman doesn't trust it for now and remains cold and distant, always watching and waiting for the chance to bring about the fall of Wily and his forces.
Trivia/Cool Facts
- The Scarf was given to him the very night that Blues vanished, two decades ago during the Fall of San Angeles.
- Both of Blues' arms can turn into busters, but Blues is in fact left handed so uses the left one the most.
- Explosions a mile in the air + Blues' Nerpium Shield make for a great skysurfing experience.
