Profile

One of Umbrella's most successful projects to date, the Blade Dancer is a search and destroy unit. Able to track her prey over long distances, she is a stealthy and agile killer. Once she has found a suitable location to engage her targets, she launches into a berserk fury, caring only for the elimination of her target. While almost feral in nature, her loyalty to Umbrella (and thereby Neo Arcadia) has been assured by Umbrella's unique conditioning practices. Still, many are uncomfortable around her, due to her inhuman appearance and abrasive personality.

Background

Kirin Mathers had a normal childhood. Two parents (Kevin and Katrina), a pair of siblings (Karl, older and Kate, younger), a life in a small town away from the war in the middle of Kansas. They didn't have a lot of money, but then, no one in town did since Reploids came around. They took up a lot of the local jobs, but that's life and 'advancement'. Kirin never really cared much about the Reploids doing the bulk of the physical labor, that just meant that she didn't have to do it. This allowed her to chase after her dream of becoming a professional dancer. So she studied long and hard, and practiced every day. Despite her ability that was at best, 'merely competent', she was accepted into NYU's arts department.

Moving to New York signaled a change for Kirin. She went from being the best dancer for miles around to being a nameless face in a sea of competition. And her competitors were more often better then she was. And more and more increasingly, her competitors were increasingly robots. She never thought it was fair that robots could be programmed how to dance rather then learning. That isn't /exactly/ how it goes, but it made a nice scapegoat to use when they were better then her. She graduated, barely, and stayed in the city, truly striking out on her own. This was the start of a downhill spiral.

Her middling talent did't bring much money in. Kirin got depressive and was increasingly prone to manic depressive mood-swings as bills started to pile up. Her financial situation was utterly hopeless. Substance abuse followed soon after. But there was a shining light at the end of the tunnel. The Umbrella Corporation was seeking young, fit, healthy people for bio-genetic research. The pay was extremely lucrative, they promised that they could cure her of her growing substance abuse habits, and all she had to do was get a few injections, why, Kirin would have been mad not to take advantage of this good thing! This was about a year before the dreaded Raccoon City Incident. One unbreakable contract later, Kirin had signed her life over to Umbrella.

The experience was nothing like she expected or could have possibly imagined. The psychological damage started with the altering of the levels of various body created chemicals, making her more feral. The less and less human she got, the more feral she became. Umbrella researchers theorized that it was her brain's self-defense mechanism to the changes, or possibly a result of various chemical combinations. Whatever the result, she had become wild and uncontrolled. Loyalty would need to be assured. This fell to a man named Reginald Huxley. Huxley, whom managed to keep his head intact after Raccoon City broke, was tasked to find a 'practical, affordable military use' for Kirin. It was Huxley that named the project 'Blade Dancer', a combination of Kirin's former profession and the bone protrusions she had gained the ability to sprout. Loyalty was assured by beatings. The Blade Dancer was taught and instructed with beatings. In fact, torture became a daily part of Kirin's life for the next three years. But by that point, she wasn't Kirin anymore, she had started to think of herself as Blade Dancer.

With the onset of the alliance between Neo Arcadia and Umbrella looming, a 'practical, affordable military use' for the Blade Dancer was found. She would make an excellent scout and tracker. But Huxley wasn't content to just let her participate in spy games. He wanted something that could find enemy scouts and slaughter them ruthlessly. So Umbrella's scientists gave her a new combat option. When certain chemical levels are reached in her brain (caused by several emotions), she leaped into a berserk frenzy, blades erupting all over her body. While it made her a superb combatant, it made her all that much more hard to control. Conditioning was intensified so that the Blade Dancer would be ready for the Neo Arcadians in a timely fashion.

Trivia/Facts

  • My biggest inspiration for Blade Dancer was Gollum, from The Lord of The Rings, followed by Carnage, from Spider Man.
  • Blade Dancer was the second Umbrella bioweapon to be apped.
  • All of Blade Dancer's ranged attacks were rebounds; this is because they all entailed ripping a bone out of her body and throwing it at an opponent.
  • Blade Dancer was bustered by Alia; upon using the Guillotine Dance for the first time, Alia promptly shuddered and deleted it from her loadout.
  • Remember, if you do drugs, Umbrella will turn you into a self-loathing biomonster. Provided Dynamo doesn't come to your house and kill you first.
  • No fewer then a dozen PCs have said a variation on the line, 'Oh my God, it talks' in relation to Blade Dancer.
  • People refered to Blade Dancer as an 'it' rather then 'her' IC... and OOC. That always made me smile.
  • Blade Dancer hoped that Neo Arcadia wouldn't stand for her plight and do something about it; she was very, very sorely mistaken.
  • Blade Dancer was also the first to join Ra Moon as a Blackguard.
